C6 Comprehensive Fob Programming Instructions
I have a scenario for you. I have ( or I should say had) one fob for my 06 C6 and ( laugh if you want) my dog got a hold of it and it no longer works. I can’t unlock the doors or open the hatch and the car will not start (the DIC shows “NO FOB”) but I can put the fob in the slot in the glove box and it the car starts, but when I try to put the car into program mode nothing happens. I think this is because the car does not see the fob that has been destroyed. I have a new fob but can’t get the car to enter program mode any help you can give would greatly appreciated. Thanks
Go back and read this whole thread as many have given tips for getting the car into the programming mode....its alot to read but much good info from many people. Also, I would suggest looking at the chewed fob carefully and seeing of you can get the battery in the proper contacts. If so, it will work as it has not been completely destroyed or it would not start the car in the slot.
I have some information to add after going through a issue with my' 07. This is relative to the fob batteries.......
The other day wife and I were out and my #1 fob was inoperative to unlock. Wife had her #2 fob so she unlocked the door. I figured my #1 battery was low, put it in the GB slot and car started ok. #2 fob was away from the car outside. I keep spare CR2032 batteries in the glovebox for occasions like this, so I swapped to a new battery in my #1 fob. It was still inoperative to unlock, etc.
Got home and read this thread in it's entirety. It appeared my #1 fob was broken. I had a spare new fob and went through the long procedure to reprogram(must do long procedure to replace #1). I put a new battery in #2 fob also while I was at it. #1 ok, but now #2 cannot unlock door, etc, but is recognized as "known fob" when I tried the short sequence after the long sequence.
Both new batteries measured apx 3.2v so I know they were good. As it turns out the new batteries had connection problems in both the #2 fob and my original #1 fob(which is now #3 when I reprogrammed). I opened both fobs and cleaned the contacts of the batteries, fob contact holder, and circuit board contacts with a q-tip and alcohol. Everything works fine now.
It seems that handling these batteries with bare fingers was my problem. When replacing fob batteries I recommend you use a tissue to clean off any residue and insert the battery in the fob without touching it.

Last week I was at the NCRS National in Novi Mi. A friend and owner of a 06 Vette went off for a ride in my 05 Vette. He drove and had his 06 Fob in his pocket. At first try the car read No Fob I put my fob on the drink holder and it started right up. But the AC went to 90 on both driver and passenger side and most of the radio stations had NO presets all else seemed OK. When we got back I jumped in the drivers seat the car fired right up and all was back to normal. A day or two later i was parked at the Convention center with Vetts of all vintages I walked up to my 05 no fob read would not unlock the doors passively
or manually acted as dead Fob battery I opened the trunk with the key
and the manuel door pull. I hit the start button No Fob I then hit the lock and unlock button on the fob I then hit the start button all OK again
Later that week we went to the GM
Proving Grounds the cars were parked by generations So i was sounded
by C6s I parked turned the car off and DIC read NO Fob and something
like On / Off Once again I locked and un locked the car with the fob
and all cleared. We ran several parts of tracks and then headed out
to the street. I drove the car 1150 or so miles home with no further
problems on the way home or since i have been home.
It was VERY HOT but it is normanly hot here in New Orleans too.
I drove through some VERY HEAVY rain about half of the trip up and some extrenly rought roads.
Any thoughts or ideas
Michael

Here's what worked for me:
Put the car in Reverse! Now be careful, you may think it's in reverse (happened to me!) but in reality it was in 5th! I had to roll it a bit for tranny to shift to Reverse. Parking brake set.
With this combo it goes into programming mode no matter window/door/glove door open or close. Just walk up to the car, turn the key 5 times, and voila - DIC beeps.
Reading through all these comments I am 99.99% convinced that all the problems were due to the (car not being in) reverse, and I really think it should be added to the instructions on the 1st page to save a lot of frustration for the first-timers.
Great thread!
