Default C4 vs C6

I am coming from a C4 (1992). But one thing I really noticed that is vastly improved over the C4, is that the chassis/frame is strong on it's own accord.

I forgot to close the hood on my 2008 yesterday. Drove 5 miles to gas station and back. Didn't even notice it till I got out of the car in the garage.

Try that on a C4 and it'll feel like the car was falling apart. The C4 relied on the hood, and targa top for structural rigidity where the C6 does not.

To Corvette engineers!

Only way you'd catch me in a C4 was if I'd lost a bet...and I don't bet.

Add an after-market chassis plate & it will feel even better!

I've seen these. Are they truly necessary?
How hard are they to install? Don't you have to drop exhaust/transmission?

Aw come on man. The C4 is a great vehicle. I loved mine and if I had the extra money, I'd buy another in a heart beat. The C5 on the other hand I can do with out. (although I'd take one if it was given )

I second that

I moved from 96, this year was much improved interior, dash was 1 piece.

Drove many times with hood open.. mine was a convertible, had an X-brace..

Of course C6 is much much stiffer

Went from a C4 to my C6 and passed on the C5....To me, these were and are, the best looking Vettes....

100% I bought my 96 Brand New, & loved every mile I put on it...(51,000 when I sold it) many of them were 1/4 mile at a time... & yes I blew several rear ends, until I changed the Dana 36 to a Dana 44! Then it was fine!

My only "Honest" complaint about it was when I drove it with the Top OFF there was a lot of frame or body twist, it drove terrible... so I only had the Top off 2 times in the 12 years I owned it.. both times in the first month!

I did drive it several times with the hood (Clam Shell) lowered but not locked down, & it had no effect on how it handled, only removing the TOP made it drive poorly.

As for my C6 I've had it over a yr now & NEVER had the top off.. maybe I'm gun shy... but on long trips I prefer to have the windows closed... with AC and the radio playing...

Also to remove the top on the C4 was a Royal PIA with the wrench and trying to screw all 4 corners in.. Maybe the C6 is easier, & I'll give it a try on a nice day...

Ouch! Now that is harsh.

My C4..... sadly missed, great car. Skipped the C5, never really like the body style. Thought about the C6 and went back and forth. Then the economy tanked and the deals on a brand spankin new 2009 Z06 were just too good to pass up.

To quote a member from the Z06 forum "Now thats movin up like George and Whezie!"

C4 was a great car for it's time. One of the only cars from that era that still turns heads.

Had an '86, not the best year, but I dug it. Loved the hood, more race inspired IMO.

Had a '93 AE MN6 Z07. Still a great looking vette. Good seats, cool hood. Wish I still had it. MY '08 VY Z06 isn't too shabby though.

I'm happy your moving up to a C6.

However the C5 is the real deal. Raw.

I also had a c-4 96. Like many of us I feel it was a good car. Had it been a pig I would never had made the jump to the c-6 I would have gone somewhere else. Boy am I glad the c-4 was good, because the c-6 is GREAT. and comes in LMB
