Default seat backrest play normal?

This might sound like a stupid question, but I just pulled the backrest releases on my '08 coupe for the first time to fold the seats forward. I was stowing the top for the first time and wanted a good look from the front. Anyways, after I returned the seats to their normal positions, I noticed I could move the backrests quite a bit and that they do not lock into position like most cars with folding seats.

I'm assuming this is normal as both seats are doing it, but I only noticed it after folding the seats. I'm sure they were like that before and didn't notice. I have not seen them moving around at all while driving, but it seems like they could move under extreme handling conditions. Maybe not? Either way, it does concern me a bit and just wanted to hear from other owners if this is totally normal. Thanks,

Andy

PS. I love my new car, and it is my first Vette. 2008 2LT, Z51, MN6, Blade Silver/Cobalt red/ebony interior. Has Corsa Sports and Vararam (and YES, the air filter is sealed properly!) for now. ECS blower kit coming soon.

Yes, normal as they do move a bit when locked. If the seat is not a bit forward, they may not lock fully.

I made sure to move them forward to verify that they were indeed allowed as far back as necessary to lock. It just seems to me that they move too much. The headrest can probably be pulled forward 4 inches or more, but they are definitely locked because I cannot fold them forward like when I pull the release lever.

4 inches sounds about right. They move more than you think they would. Mine move about the same amount. Mine is an 08 also.

Cool, that is what I figured. Just seemed a bit odd to me. Thanks,

Andy

The play in the seatbacks is to prevent damage if you run the entire seat rearward with some tilt on the back. You can feel it hit the bulkhead behind you and start to tilt forward a little.
