I was looking at some remote starts and heard very good things about the viper systems. I know that there is a way to bypass the clutch on a manual, but was just wondering of anyone on here had an experience with this and how it worked out?
DEI and Compustar make an alarm that will auto start a stick .
have the car running at idle
ebake on
in neutral
hit the alarm
get out .
hit the alarm again
car dies and locks the doors
the car knows its in neutral and since you got out and locked it with the remote its all good . As long as you don't open the door you can auto start the car. If you open the door the alarm thinks that you may have got in and put the car in gear and wont start .
I know it can be done BUT--- when I went to get one done in my pick-up, most people who install said no way would they put them in a stick. Seems one shop had put one is a guys BMW and he hit the remote to start the car in the driveway while it was still in gear. The car "bumped" out of the drive and into the street where it was hit by an oncoming car. The installer was sued.
There are systems out there that will by-pass the clutch but the two concerns I have in doing this in a C6 are that the parking brake in a Corvette is usually marginal and generally to put a remote start in a C6 it is my understanding that it requires an active fob be hidden somewhere in the car.

The manual safe start procedure that dei has would prevent a start in gear. Theres no way to do this unless you bypass that function. Also you would need a 1101T Universal Proximity Key Bypass Override Kit to get around the factory remote issue. This causes you to give up one remote that stays in the car permantley. when the car is disarmed the 1101T powers up the battery(that was in the remote) to function as if it was in the car.
Beware. There are plenty of people who have 'mysterious' dead battery or other electrical issues after hacking up the wiring harness of a complex, multi-computer-reliant car like the C6.
I don't know what your warranty status is, but you should also be aware that the GM Service dept will blame any problem that is remotely connected to your car's electrical system on your Remote Start modification -- and considering the complexity of the C6 and the invasive nature of installing an aftermarket remote start system -- they may be right.
Your car, of course... just sayin'... go into such a project well aware of all the risks.

that post really dosen't answer too much. It sounds like they think it would work. It is my understanding that you also would trat this as any other remote start install but if you wanted to retain the auto unlock feature with the factory remote you would still have to disarm with the system remote

I meant for you to contact the vendor, apparently their tech guy can answer your questions. One of their posts states it will work with a manual, I would call and pick their brain. If they claim it works and maintains all remote functions I would get it in writing prior to install, just in case it doesn't. Personally, I wouldn't mess with the electronics, they are tempermental as is.
FWIW
I hear ya, it just seems like its a big secret or something. Get you in the door kinda thing. I know its not too common based on the research I've done, and I have installed quite a few remote starts, Its definitly involved
Whats strange is, if you look at the Cadillac CTS they have the same Key Fob, and they offer keyless access with remote start. So it is possible. Why they don't offer it on the Vette I don't know.
Not really needing this feature on my Vette' or any car, but my 08' Pontiac GXP has it from the factory. Pretty cool, as it kick's the HVAC to high heat defrost, rear defog on and seat heater's to high. Reset's to normal when you get in. Don't think I'd bother with an aftermarket set up, unless it does something similar.

Autobuffs confirmed to me that you needed to have a FOB in the car so the car would start. Not much in the way of security at that point.
