Default Transporting a Corvette

Do new Corvettes leave the factory on open air transports? I am going to ship my old C5 and am debating between closed and open. There is a big price difference.

. . . and they have a lot of "Saran Wrap" on the more vulnerable surfaces . . . .

While a new Corvette is shipped via open carrier, that is the only car the driver deals with, loading and unloading. Most private transporters use old open carriers that were not necessarily designed for the Corvette and the driver may not be that experienced in loading/unloading a Corvette. I see a lot of the old open car carriers on I-44 and you see a mix of cars on them. Do you want an old oil leaking 4-dr sedan parked above your Corvette?

Most high end closed transporters use a double deck, flat transporter with a hydraulic lift gate to raise/lower the car. Since these carriers deal with high end cars on a daily basis, they are more likely knowledgeable dealing with Corvettes/Porsche/M-B/ etc.

Allied is the sole transporter for Corvette, I think.

Why don't they cover them like Audi does?
Even their lowest end car gets covered.

They do. The covering is shown in the picture with the red car. It is a clear wrap.

Many years ago I sold my 71 LS6 to an out of state buyer. He had an open carrier pick up the car. When the truck pulled in front of my house it had a brand new Lamborghini Countach sitting on top at the rear of the trailer. The Vette went underneath it. There were several other cars on the trailer but the driver put the Vette under the most epensive car and the newest one so there would be minimal chance of leaks.

They just don't throw them on the carrier in a haphazard manner. I live in upstate NY and my car was going to Chicago while the Lambo was going to LA. The driver told me he had several more stops to pick up cars but the Vette would travel all the way to Chicago on the bottom level under the Lambo.

Audi makes too much noise (used to be called Audio) and so need to be completely covered for less noise pollution.

The Cadillac XLR's also assembled at the Bowling Green plant
were shipped to dealers in closed carriers by Allied.

I bought a Cobra a few years back in Ohio. I had it shipped to me in RI. $900 if I remember correctly.

Here is mine being delivered. I wasn't able to be there but the manager told me the Allied driver had great pride in his job and what he was doing. The driver even wrote down his personal information and cell number if I had any questions or concerns. Great service from Allied in my experience

My new 09 was delivered to EVS Chevrolet in an XLR covered carrier. I had it sent to me in New York in another covered carrier via Thomas Sunday. Wrapped in plastic too!
Ship it covered...........your car will thank you.

I wouldn't consider an open transport. My son just shipped his Ferrari from Indianapolis to Ct. with Reliable Carriers. Closed trailer and very proffesional. Cost was around $900. Much cheaper than body work and the impact on value that that has!
