if it is a worry for you just have the dealer check the service record to see if it has been updated. Only the first of the 05's were in the listed VIN's. I had one that was within the range and nothing ever happened to mine. The actual number of those that came loose wasn't great. Most reported a belt squeal prior to everything coming undone.

The last 5 digits of your vin need to be less than 11039 to be in the range.

Back when this started happening there was a thread with excellent pictures but I haven't been able to find it tonight. Some people tried marking the nut position while other were paranoid and checked it all the time. I just drove mine like I normally would.

The balancer becomes loose and you will hear the belts chirp. The edges of the belts will have excessive wear. There are numerous posts on this issue as well as defective balancers that had to be replaced.

Using the forum search type in harmonic balancer loose and search for posts in the C6 tech section You should find several that will provide all the information you seek including the TSB from GM...good luck

To answer your question, the crank pulley comes loose from the end of the crank! It is difficult to see looking down from above, but if it is loose at all the belt will wear on the edges as it will be out of alignment enough to wear and as stated above cause the belts to make noise. I am in the range too with my 05, but have had no problem...yet.
