Default Torn between two c6s...Help!

Been search for the prfect car for over a month now. Both cars are priced at 26 out the door!

Found an 06 w/ 60k miles (a6) Le Mans Blue

the other is:
an 05 w/ 20k miles
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

My questions are:

What is the better buy? I was looking for the a6 with paddles but is it worth a 40k mile difference? How much faster is the a6 vs a4?

Keep saving, and shopping until you find an 08, or 09 that you can afford.

I would go with the lower mile 05 if you have to but:

1. 05 have the weaker differential (some had problems with them)
2. You've got the crank pulley issue
3. DBS (dead battery syndrome) issue
4. A4 tranny as opposed to A6 + paddle shift

on the other hand 06 doesn't have the potential 05 problems(not that you will have problems) but has 40k more miles. Now, I myself have an 05 and bought it used and it's an early production car but have had ZERO issues or any of the 05 issues with the car and i put 12k miles on it within the last year that I've owned it. There is total 40k miles on the car now and no issues and I absolutely love my car.
I would side with the previous posts though and agree that you should search a little more since now is a total buyer's market. Unless you are set on any one of those two cars. When I went in and saw my car, I knew that was the one for me and it has been a very precise choice for me until today(I did the whole autocheck,GMVIS, test drive etc etc before buying). So go with your gut feeling and most importantly RESEARCH before singing on the dotted line. Good Luck!

Wait for a 2006 or newer car with lesser miles, or save some more.

Honestly, they are both a little overpriced probably. The 06 has too many miles for that price, and I have seen a few 05 autos for quite a bit less than 26. But if it is what you like, buy it. But from the way it sounds, you aren't really crazy about either car, so I would just wait. When you see the one you really want, you'll know it.

The '05 had a few "first year" issues. Keep looking for an '06+ with less miles.

Don't be afraid to shop online with the Forum Vendors, it's a buyers market and traveling a bit is worth the effort for the right car.

Good Luck.

Do not get in a hurry! Do your research and you will find the right car. I will agree with others in getting the latest model that you can comfortably afford. Get the most well equipped car you can. It will make it more enjoyable and bring more on the resale end. Good luck in your search

Honestly, you should be able to find a better deal. Although, the 05 deal isnt too bad!

Like others have said, 05s are first year models and did have some issues, though not all cars. Check the vin and look in the FAQ on here to see if yours falls within the problematic VIN category. I have an 05, late production one, and have had no problems other than the water pump going at 16k miles. Since then, I have added 14k miles in the last 6 months with zero issues.

THe 06,again as others have stated, have a beefed up drivetrain compared to the 05. Now, here is the thing; if you're going to drag your car all the time, then the 06 is probably the smarter move. However, there's plenty of guys who drag their 05s and don't break the drivetrain after hundreds of passes. Let's be realistic, if you slap slicks on an 06+ there is a good chance that they too can break stuff . Also, bear in mind with the higher mileage, you'll want to have everything checked over. 60k is not really a lot, but you'll want to check the brakes, filters, etc. to make sure eveything is maintained. If you need tires and brakes, that's quite a lot of $ to add on top of the buying price.

If I was you, I would keep looking. You should find it fairly easy to find an 06+ under $30k now. I got my 05 LMB fully loaded z51 for $28k with brand new tires this past April.

Go with the lower mile car. If you want to shift it yourself, get a manual tranny instead. I have an '06 A6 and after having the car for a while, the novelty of the paddle shift wore off. I never use it anymore.

If you go look at the '05 in person and it screams "Take Me Home!", then get it. If you look at it and feel that you could take it or leave it, then leave it.
