Tires
After 15k miles, and a year and a half later, it was time to get rid of the shoes on my Sancha. The F1 Supercars still had some stick left, but my wife said with the Holidays and some other stuff coming up, it was time to replace them.
After hearing people talk about non-runflats versus runflats, how poorly F1 Supercars last, how hard they get (mine are just a few stages softer than bricks) I decided to go with the Firestone Wide Oval Run flats.
After driving on them the last week, I'll mention a couple of things:
1. The Discount Tire in Brownsville was awesome. They matched the Tire Rack price, and charged me 30 bucks less for shipping. All told, with Road Hazard, mounting and balancing, rebuilt TPMS sensors and Nitrogen filled, it was right at $1300.00. Four guys, and 30 minutes and they were REALLY careful.
2. I am impressed. These Firestones grip as good or better than the Supercars did when new.
3. They are alot quieter. I mean, the difference was like night and day.
4. They remind me more of non-runflats.
I purchased the Road Hazard in case of a catastrophic failure, one where the tire is non-repairable. I remember reading on here that Firestone does not allow repairs, so it was worth the Road Hazard's 122 dollar price in order to replace the tire with no pro-rated fee. show the warranty and bam, new tire.
I researched so much, it made my Wife's head hurt. Comparing this tire to that tire, and it finally came down to the peace of mind that run flats give me. And especially if the wife drives the car. I cannot in good conscience see her on the side of the road, in business clothes and heels, plugging a tire and getting filthy. She doesn't mind, but I would rather not put her in that situation. I wouldn't get any nookie for awhile, and God forbid that happens!!!
