Default Argh!!!!

Got in vette on a bright sunny day here in NC and decided I'd take the top off. Unlatched the top, started engine to let it warm up a bit before starting out. I got out to put top in back and noticed where a bird had gotten my car yesterday and decided I'd hose it off. I ended up finding a few other spots that needed rinsing. Put hose back and started off, got up to 35 mph or so and whoosh - off flew the top. Thank god it didn't hit anyone, but it's beat to hell and I feel like [am] the dumbest human walking around. Anyone else been down this path and have guidance on how much it'll cost to replace? [you can say your wife did it and not have to admit to my level of stupidity] Paint is scraped to hell and it's partially delaminated so I don't think I'll try fixing it. Called dealership and parts guy said to come down and "look at what he had", which was $700 or so and didn't sound like the complete assembly. I'm bummed....

Thanks, I appreciate that. You'd think with all the liability risk vs. cost of putting in a damn sensor there'd be a warning light or somethin!

Sorry to hear that and can see how it can happen. Hope you replace it soon. On a better note, at least we're not talking about an accident in your vette.

Never thought of that, thats a great idea and the car should have that. Now Chevy will steal the idea.

Check ebay. Saw a black one there right now for 350 bucks. It looked ok but you'd have to check further.... Some bucks to get it painted but you'd have to do on a new one anyway....

Sorry to hear this...best of luck in getting a replacement. I am surprised we don't hear about it happening more often.

Don't beat yourself up--nobody hurt except your pride. Look in the parts for sale section or EBAY. Bet it won't happen again.

Sorry to hear that. Mistakes happen.

You might be able to buy a shell and transfer your hardware and w/striping over.

Been there, done that. I was sick over it. I filed a claim with my insurance company a couple of years ago and it still has not affected my rates. Got a check for about $1200 for my clear top. You are now officially a member of the FRC (flying roof club).

Another member in the "flying roof club". The initiation fee to this club can become very expensive. The good thing is that the roof did not hit anyone or anything to cause an even worse situation. Sorry about your misfortune.

Just what we need,,,

Don't we have enough wind chimes and blinking lights now when we forget doors, lights and seatbelts?

Learn from it man, I left my wallet on top of my car roof twenty years ago and lost a weeks pay......Never did it twice...

I don't take my top very often since I don't feel comfortable parking with the top off and having to put it on everywhere I go would be kind of annoying. I don't know if I would forget to latch it if I took it off more often but sorry to hear about what happened to your top. Good luck with finding a replacement top.
