Default C6 prices

sooo i've been looking for a c6 since begining of the summer... I have seen quite a few going for $26-27k, modded, 3lt's etc (I am talking about 06+ yrs). I was hoping that there would be even more towards winter, and maybe at a bit lower price, but.... that's not the case. There's still a bunch of people asking $30+k for them, and just not that many of them for sale. there's a ton of 05's for <25k, but no 06's (saw like 2, barely under $30), and same thing for cars.com and autotrader... lot's of 05's, but no 06's-07's... what's going on? And what's with prices? 08's are already $32k (saw quite a few), but LS2's are still holding up...

I was shocked reading the old forum posts from late 2004/2005, when the new 2005 C6 model was coming out. Man, people were paying OVER sticker, sometimes $5K+ for one. $55K for a hardtop 2005 C6 was not uncommon.

Today, the car is worth around $25K. Nothing like taking a $30K+ hit in 4 years on a car. I guess that is the price you pay for wanting the "new" toy.

Recently, the same lunacy was happening with the ZR1. I remember reading posts where people paid $50k+ over sticker for a ZR1. Now, it looks like they are selling for MSRP.

well, I'm sure that people that have payed over sticker, on a 50k car, can afford to lose that much money... usually new corvette buyers don't stress about money too much. I'm a used car buyer (5yr old at that), so i'm trying to get a best deal... I have been seeing same cars for sale, on different websites, since August. They are priced at 30k+. I don't think ls2 are worth more than 30k. This is the way i see it: 07 3lt tops at 29k, 07 1lt for 26k (07's have 100k warranty). 06's 3lt 26-27k, 1 lt 25k. This is what i think the realistic prices are for this years and the cars. And i'm talking about excellent condition, under 40k miles. And those would as of what i have seen in the summer, towards winter months it should drop some...

For the most part aren't prices based on supply and demand? If the prices are hanging above $30k, there is a reason for it. I assume your thoughts on prices are for coupes and not verts?

...and that reason is that most Corvette owners think their car is worth much more than it really is....

The big loss in resale only happens the first 3 years then prices drop much slower. 05/06/07's are about finished with the large drop and is why you see the prices hanging around in the lower 30's high 20's. The next bump down to C6 prices will happen when the C7 comes out, till then unless the car is in rough shape or above average miles I doubt you'll see much change in earlier C6 prices.

I think there are a lot of people in my situation. I have a low miles (7500) 07 coupe 1LT 6 sp manual Z51 and chromes, if all I can get is 26K for the car I will just keep it.

My 2005 Z51 coupe stickered for $52.4 when it was delivered in September 2004 and today with 25k miles is still in wonderful shape. Like most owners, I'd like to believe the car's worth a little more than the average bear.

In the Phoenix market, it may be worth $26-28k on a private sale if I'm lucky -- but fortunately, have no desire at this point to sell.

There was an `05 in our paper last weekend for $20.9 . . . but had 96k miles - - that's about as low as I've seen unless a wreck or salvage title.

In this economy- who knows? I'm not sure any purchase or investment is following a traditional path these days.

People can ask whatever they want. There's a guy asking 30 grand "at least" for an 05 w/38,000 miles. He will be sitting on that for a long time!If you wait to long though, prices will go up slightly when the weather starts getting nice.If you find an 08 for 32 grand, grab that thing! It's upgraded and faster then the prior years.

I find it interesting that many here think a vehicle is worth anything other than what someone will sell it for. I see many vehicle auctions on TV and they never sell a car for less than the reserve which is the price the owner has set.

That said, sometimes people need the money and let it go for less than they wanted.

Many of us picked up new '09s for great prices ($10K+ under sticker). If/when these cars start entering the used market, they might help bring down used prices across the board.

I have an '09 1LT coupe with barely over 1K miles. I hate to think about it, but there's a decent chance that both me and my wife will be unemployed next year. If that happens, my C6 will be the first luxury to go. I will be able to price it aggressively without losing my shirt on it. Heck, I will be able to price it low enough that even the bottom feeders in the corvetteforum.com "C6s for sale" section might even be interested.

i've been looking and 'kicking the tires' for about a year now. haven't really decided what i want yet so i've been looking at c5s and c6s. what surprises me is the price of the c5s. i'm finding better prices on a c6 than i am on a c5. there is no way i'm pay 22k to 28k on an '00 or '02 when i can get a c6 for the same or slightly more. i just don't get it. it's almost like the c6s are losing value quicker than the c5s.

And so you find it funny that the market has dropped?

I'm sure your home is worth way less than it was three years ago. Are you selling it for less or waiting until the market rebounds? Patience is a virtue when it comes to any kind of transaction and that includes selling as well as buying.

Like me, many here love their Vettes and have no real desire to sell them. They have an inherently higher value to us than to the guy looking for a dirt cheap buy who clearly won't appreciate it. I'd rather they went out and bought a ricer for $25k.

I agree with Bring on Spring.
I've been told that the '08 showed a lot of changes and is sometimes referred to as the C6.1.
If you can stretch yourself a bit, it might make sense to go for the newer car.
Prices vary a lot, and regionally too.

Best of luck. Hope you don't lose your jobs!

Had to laugh at the bottom feeders comment. I think these are often used car salesmen looking for trade-in-value-priced Vettes to sell later at a higher price.

Another thing that people aren't considering in the used price is Options, not just 1LT, 2LT, 3LT etc. but the other add ons.

My '08 was $45,170 for a 1LT no option coupe.
$49,675 for the 3LT ($4,505) and
$58,540 as optioned w/ Nav, Z51, NPP, Dual roof, A6, JSB tint coat(and $850 destination charge).

$12,545 in OPTIONS over a 1LT!
$8,040 over a base 3LT.

And the same used selling value as a 1LT? Or a non optioned 3LT. No Way!

The '08s have the largest amount of 1 year changes (vesus the '07 or '09).
  • New LS3 motor with 30 more HP (6 add'l with NPP exhaust opt.)
  • New 6-spd manual Tranny (6060 vs the T56) - shifts nicer, but has had it's growing pains.
  • Variable Steering re-worked / improved.
  • Interior upgrade, namely the center console surround (Leather pkg. avail also)
  • Typical Wheel and color changes.

When the market started nose-diving, these cars were reduced significantly (as '09s continue the trend) when new.

A clean used '08 may be the best value going right now, if you choose not to go with a leftover '09.
