VaVette is correct. If you have HUD, the windshield is more expensive than if you don't have HUD. If its not a large crack, I would look into getting it repaired. I have had mine repaired twice and unless you look really hard, you cant see where it was. Mine were just very small rock chips.
Coming back from Carlisle this year, I thought some kids were waving from a bridge over the PA turnpike. Nope, they weren't waving, they were throwing stones. One hit near the top of my windshield and kind of "skittered" across leaving a deep 3 inch scratch. Insurance sent a repair guy out to fix it, he said, NO WAY. Ended up with insurance comprehensive footing the $1000 bill for the install. I paid $100 on my comprehensive policy.
Replacing windshields is one of the reasons you have Comprehensive insurance. I have $200 deductible comp with full glass coverage and don't worry about the cost of replacing a windshield. The company will not raise your rates on a comp claim. They don't even ask how or where it was damaged.

That has NOT been my expereince. To an insurance company a claim is a claim is a claim. It does not matter what it was for or how much it was for. I once had 4 comprehensive claims that totalled less than $500 ($50 deductible) for all 4 and one at fault accident. I was dumped for an excessive claims history.
Sure learned my lesson...........never ever trust your insurance company!!!
Had mine replaced two years ago on my '05. The glass tech tried to do the chip repair deal and the windshield ended up cracking. Just happens, sometimes, I was told. If you do get it replaced, be sure they remove/install the rear view mirror correctly or it will rattle and possibly need to be replaced-as mine was. Do a search on this topic as several of us have had this experience. My comp insurance covered the cost of the HUD windshield which took several days to get. The new mirror cost was picked up by the glass company.

Years ago I had the same thing happen. I had insurance with an independent agency starting at age 16. In my early thirties, we had three windshield claims in about 18 months. Two from baseball/softball hits while attending our kids games and one from a stick flying off a logging truck and hitting my wife's windshield. We were informed that we were being dropped from their "premium policy" but they would insure us under a higher premium policy! Screw that! I switched to Farm Bureau and have never had a problem in the next 15 years.
The car has a full horizontal and verticle crack in the windshield. It also has a HUD. The windshield is not repairable unfortunately. I am going to have to look into the insurance option.
Stone hit mine right above hood line. Started as a star with 2 line cracks going in opposite directions. 1 toward drivers side pillar, the other toward passenger. Called my insurance people, they said lay a dollar bill over it. If you cant cover it with a dollar bill, it cant be reapaired. Needless to say, they had Benswanger replace it. Dont know cost of replacement, but know it exceeded $1,000. My deductible was $250. I insisted that they purchase a GM windsheild because I wanted to keep the vehicle original. The reason, the replacements that the glass companies buy, although made by the same people GM buys from, may not have the GM logo. The insurance company humored me on a one time basis she said, but next time I am on my own. It was $95 more for the GM windshield as apposed to the one normally purchased by the glass company.
Florida state law requires insurance companies to replace cracked windshields under comp coverage for obvious safety reasons. you can not be "black balled" because of this claim. it varies from state to state.
The front windshield comes in either HUD or non-HUD flavors, with the only difference being an extra polish being given to the reflective material placed between the glass layers during construction for the HUD glass. The HUD glass is, easily, over $1000. Last I checked, there wasn't a lot of non-GM glass available - it pretty much has to be sourced from GM.
I've had the rear glass replaced on my 2006 - a tint shop (attached to the local dealership) gouged my glass with a razor blade. I insisted that they replace the glass, and they complied - had to get a glass from BG since there is no aftermarket glass or GM glass in inventory anywhere. Car sat for 3 days waiting for it to arrive. The dealership paid well over $2k for it, and I didn't file an insurance claim since they took care of it.
As for insurance companies, there may be a few folks here and there who don't get dinged by their insurance for filing a claim, but those are few and far between. File a glass claim? Fine - you may not have a problem, especially if you are not a big claim filer. BUT, you start filing more than 1 every five years, and you'll find yourself non-renewed because of excessive claims. Frankly, given the cost of C6 glass, you may have to file a claim. But, I'd really try to avoid it if you can.
When I called my insurance company, she did a 3 way with Benswanger on line with us. The guy at Benswanger couldnt guaranty me that my replacement windshield would have the GM logo on it because he said they bought their glass from vendors as appossed to GM direct. Knowing nothing about who makes windshields or what kind of individual contracts apply for manufacture, that is why I insisted on a windshield purchased from my local Chevy dealer who I knew, and he assured me they would purchase from GM stock.

For heavens sake, it's a windshield. It keep rain out and bugs from between your teeth. It ain't real performance related! Flie a claim, get it replaced and forget it.
No one mentioned the trim around the glass, it too has to be replaced in the process. You cannot use the same old trim that came on the car again. Found that out when I purchased an 07' C6 back June 09'. Thank goodness the repair involved a chip on the passenger side, and was afterwards covered with a NCM Decal...perfect!!!

Similar story and to not name companies, let me just say I was told I was being moved out of the "neighborhood" due to my three (3) comp. claims for glass on different vehicles covered under the policy. They later decided not to insure the house as well - all after over 25 years with them. They still send me advertisements to ensure I know I can save money if I switched to them .... go figure
just had mine replaced. I dont have hud, but plan on adding. I told the INS company I had HUD, and since its FL you get free replacement. So i was happy.
