Default C6 "Issues" ?

I'm looking to step up the an 07 or 08 C6. I'm just wondering if the C6s have issues like the C5s? E.g., "Service Active Handling" and "Column Lock" that drive us up the wall. It won't stop me from buying one but, I would like to know what may be lurking out there.

Thanks

Les

I have 51k miles on my 06 and have had neither of those problems
All I have had is
*Flying roof replaced.
*AC compressor replaced
*A6 shifter stuck, replaced
*Ashtray door popping open, replaced 3 times

Other than that nothing. Been running like a dream.

Only the 2005 has the colum lock and it's not a problem.

Oh, there have been a few accidents/crashes of C6's caused by a supposed active handling "bug". No recalls or fixes yet, but the NHTSA does have a spate of complaints.

Only mechanical issue I have with mine (other than winter itself) is that the battery dies after just a few weeks of not using the car. Commonly known issue.

Another is the cold shifting/grinding issues that plague the manual trannies. Once it warms up, all is well.

I gotta 'vert so I don't have roof popping issues. There was one convertible part recall, it was a two minute dealer fix and NBD.

Other than that, no real issues in a year and a half of ownership.

I say go for it. C6 seems to be well built for a GM.

'08 here just shy of 30k miles. I've had the following:
* Popping top fixed with some silicone grease
* Alignment out from the factory
* Assorted rattles neither I nor the dealership can locate
* Popping differential on low speed turns when cold. Fixed with a lube change under warranty

Take a look at the Service Bulletins at the NHTSA for the years you are considering. This will give you a pretty good idea of the common issues. Not everyone will experience these issues, but they are common enough that GM issued a bulletin.

Have 34k miles on my 07 (daily driver).

Plenty of rattles, the hatch pull down motor doesn't always work (even since brand new) and occasionally when I start the car the radio (speakers) makes a popping sound. Other than that it has been great.

I would check the Service Technical Bulletins for what ever year you are considering. I would consider an '08 or newer becuase of the LS-3 engine and other meaningful upgrades. Just do your homework and go find exactly what you want. Always remember, if you don't simply love the car it is not a good deal at any price. Happy hunting.

Only three issues with mine (06 vert currently at 15K miles):

1. Torn headliner fixed under warranty
2. Differential chatter - fluid replaced under warranty
3. Brake squeal - replaced stock pads with ceramic pads (Z51 optioned)

Also have that fuel gauge problem. Only 5000 miles on my 06 and it's swinging all over the place. Estimated big bucks to drop both tanks to replace with a new fuel sender. Apparently a known problem, but not warranty -GM is blaming the additives in the fuel, although there is an "improved" model that will replace it.

08 with no real issues, had the diff oil replaced under TSB and really improved the diff chatter and car bucking at low speed.

Drive mine a grand a month and have 20,000 on it at present.

No other real issues.

Popping top and squeaky brakes on my '08 with 12K miles. Otherwise flawless.

DON'T BUY ONE! ITS A NIGHTMARE CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where to start.......................

I hadn't even taken delivery and I already had a pile of add-ons for it. Then I spend a fortune on cleaning products because I just love to keep her clean and shiny. Now with 8800 miles on her, I am looking into fancy wheels and leather interior upgrades.

I am telling you steer clear. This car will cost you a fortune in the long run!

Too late. I'm already hooked. I just sold my 01 vert and I'm working on trading my wife's 01 coupe in on a silver 08 vert.

I went to the NHTSA site and looked up the bulletins on the C6. I started writing them down but, the list went on forever. Most of the stuff wasn't a concern. The issues about the anti-lock brakes and automatic trans 2-3 upshift are definately things to be aware of - if not worried about.

Thanks everyone for your input. As usual, you came accross with just what I was looking for.
