Default Spare C6 Key

I got a spare key made at the local Chevrolet dealer. It is like the original. Does anyone know how to modify the top so that it will fit in my wallet?

If you're asking about a stock key that actually fits in the FOB, I don't think it can be modified, reasonably. Not sure though.

Check this thread, good info and another alternative in the link in post #4:

Good luck. If you do get the stock key modded please post back with info.

I used a dremel tool on mine, took about 1 minute or less to grind off the plastic head.

Default Spare Key

The key I got cut is a duplicate in every way. I want to replace the larger silver piece with something that will fit in my wallet.

The actual key is held into the big head by a very small screw, on our 2009 fob. It looks like you could just remove the screw.

However, it takes a lot of torque to pop the trunk, you would need to slip a nail or something through the key to get enough leverage.

Here's the spare key I keep in my wallet. Same for Saturn cars, # B106. (B106P has a plastic head). Cost about $5 at a local key shop.

Save the one you have, get a B-106 blank and have one made at a locksmith for $3. Use that in your wallet.

Default Spare Key

Given the cost of the new GM Key I do not want another from a Locksmith. I removed the small screw. How do I remove the actual key from the silver top?

Yesterday I got the B-106 cut to match. Burned the black plastic off of it and buffed the key. It fits perfectly in my wallet. Thanks for the excellent information.

Just for others...the Saturn B-106 key I got at Ace Hardware did not have the plastic on it.

I just got a new Chevy Bowtie key from my dealer about 3 weeks ago. It cost me $12.50 to get the blank and have them cut it.

Maybe i'll grab another one and see if i can't hide it in my waller. I have a 2006 so i can switch to an 08+ style fob. It would be nice if i didn't have to have the key on the key ring all the time.
