I found a car for sale online, but the price is tooo low... How can I tell if its a scam ? I might be getting the carfax soon, i hope.... Does anyone here know of any current or past scams that are happing online ? The car I found is priced maybe $10k less than current market value. It might just be someone dumping thier extra car, but I want to know it's all legit...... I might end up with a great car if this is all legit ! The owner is not aval, out of town, I plan on looking the car over asap, or it will sell. I once found a really nice 08 under priced and the seller was kinda goofy and I didn't buy it.
if anyone knows of a current scam or how others have worked in the past please post up and warn me what to look out for.
What do you guys think a 06-07 Z06 w/25k miles is worth ?
thx Tim

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Sometimes when you see a car listed online for a price that's way too low, it's not necessarily a scam - it might just be a typo. For example, if a car costs $29,995, it might accidently get listed as $20,005... since the 9 and 0 are next to each other on the keyboard.
I wrote the person back tonight to verify the price, but since I worked late tonight , I won't know till tomorrow, but the person did say the car is priced to sell fast and if I needed to apply and wait for a loan to go thru, not to bother replying ! I wasn't sure how to take that, I thought it was a wierd comment to make...if I'm asked to transfer $$ or something odd, I'll walk...I really want to see the car, like I said if this is legit then I'm excited.
it was on a legit website, Autotrader, the ad is now gone. I wrote the person about a week ago and got no response, so I thought the car was sold, got a email today, and the person is in Tokyo , I believe the car is in Az. Waiting to hear back from the owner.
Beware with auto trader, Crooks are taking cars advertised on E-Bay & doctoring up the ads with appealing prices & trying to fish people in. They did so with my Z06 & my friends truck when they were for sale. I made Auto Trader pull the AD's.
...the person did say...if I needed to apply and wait for a loan to go thru, not to bother...
Translation: If a lending institution is involved, there's no way the seller can rip you off with a fake ad. That's probably why the seller was trolling for a "cash" buyer.
Sounds fishy...seller is in Tokyo now when he has his car up for sale at below market price and he tells you to not bother with him if you need financing? Why would he be out of the country if he was so certain his car will be sold quick?
There was a 09 Z06 priced way below market. Fortunately, the real seller had it posted in the for sale section on this forum and he was getting scammed. Someone hijacked his ad in autotrader. The tell tale sign it was a scam was that they would only do the sale through Yahoo something or other.
See the car in person....then have it up on a rack to make sure the car wasn't wrecked. But if it's a scam, you may never get the chance to see the car in person. Don't forget to verify the VIN on the actual car to the VIN he supplies over the phone/ad.
Post the header....the entire header from the email you received or PM it to me....I'll tell you who and where it's from......Sounds like dozens of scams I see everyday....
Typical scam, car is in one place and seller is usually our of the country with some tragic story and car is priced to sell quick. You must wire them money and they will ship U the car, site unseen of course but if you dont like it keep it for 10 days and send it back. Yeah right. There was one recently in OT about a guy claiming he was selling his kids car who was killed in the war somewhere over seas. SICK!
i had a guy who needed a quick sale and a low price.he instisted i use a yahoo pay thing deposit.i told him i was 2hr's away from where the car was located and could be there with cash by the weekend for a super quick sale.never heard from him again...al...
can someone host and post a pic of the car for me ? That way maybe someone here has seen it before....
the pics do look they where taken here in Az, notice the palm trees. I once found a good deal, the houses/background didn't match the area they said the car was at ....
I saw a Z for sale in auto Trader and traded emails with a guy a few months ago. Nice looking car in the pictures and about $10k under priced. Identical story, he was working in Japan and the car was in AZ. I insisted on seeing the car FIRST and he kept pushing the neutral third party trick.
It was/is a total scam. Please report them to Auto Trader? We need to stop crap like this.
No offense but that is how these people operate. People looking to get a "deal" /something "cheap" and want the car so much they over look the obvious.................... Any car I cant personally see or send someone I KNOW to look at and wants me to wire money/wont accept financing etc is a DEF NO NO NO.....
