MGW shifter installed - Merry Christmas
Well, Christmas came early and I installed one of my presents yesterday. Got the MGW shifter and a white shifter ball to go with it.
One comment about the install. All info I saw was that the torx size was either 15 or 20 to remove the set screw for the stock shifter ****. Well, on my 2006, it took a 25 to fit correctly. Not sure whether GM puts different sizes in, and dont know why they would, but it definitely took a 25 torx to fit.
removal and installation went fine. the instructions from mgw were ok, but showed a tube of RTV(?) to be used as a gasket for the installation, but the kit I received had a gasket instead. The instructions also did not show the stock yellow sound or vibration barrier that went on top of the shifter isolation plate. No big deal, but i was surprised to see it when taking the unit apart. I also reinstalled that unit when i completed putting the rest of the parts back on.
The shifter works fine, with no rattles in our 20 degree temperatures. Definitely shorter and tighter throws that will take a couple of days to get used to.

You can either use the gasket or the tube of RTV, your option. You will probably find that it will loosen up after some miles and not be as heavy. Make sure you remember to hold it over when dropping from 5th to 6th or it will "fall" back into 4th. You will really enjoy this mod.

I got mine yesterday with the MGW race ****. I love it!! Put it in this morning. I can't believe the difference!! So solid, precise, and quick. It feels like a new car!! I had to cut and restitch the shifter sock to get the fit, but it looks awesome!!

vibration noise with the shifter
so now that i had a chance to use the shifter i must say it is more precise, and cant wait to get conditions to really test the second to third shift.
but i do have the vibration noise that some have spoke of. the conditions were cold outside (around 25 degrees F) but even after the engine and drive train were warm for some time, when i accelerated hard i could hear the vibration. am curious as to what forum members think the causes could be and what solutions they have tried (successfully), or is it just the cold...
thanks in advance
