Today I found these two small blocks of sticky things on one side & the other side looked like aluminum foil under my car, & was wondering what they were, I thought I ran over something and it melted on the undercarriage, however it seemed like they belonged there. Can anyone help?
They are part of your car they were put there as an anti vibration buffer according to my GM dealership. Hope this helps
They are a dead soft aluminum foil bonded to a viscoelastic polymer sandwiched between an isolation pressure sensative adhesive backing.
Vibration in a panel will be transferred and isolated by the elastic properties of the polymer and deadened by the aluminum.
It is usable in a wide range of temperature and has very strong resitance to the elements and solvents and cleaners. It was developed for the aircraft industry and has been used in the auto industry for several years.
