Roof Recall - How is it done?

I don't know and I would sure hope not. I would rather the dealer keep painting the top until he got the match right before painting the halo (roof bow) just to make the paint shop's life easier.

painting roof a different color??
I've been thinking about painting my Daytona orange roof black. I wonder if the dealer might do this as part of the recall? Anyone have any idea?
Also, what do you think it would look like and do you think the roof bow should be painted too?
Appreciate your input.

#1 why would'nt you call your dealer and ask them how they want to deal with it! #2 they want the car there so they can swap the latches, liability issue's # 3 too hard to figure out that you take the car there, right before it's ready for the paint process?

I called
I called Chevy Thursday and talked with a real person and he said my 2007 Coupe was not listed as having a recall.
I sure hope that is correct. My experience with service Depts. is not good, especially paint.

#2 Since they "know nothing" how am I to schedule the car in to have the recall performed?
#3 The car is already scheduled in one of the premier body shops in the area and I do not want to create problems with them or my car.
If the dealership was able to give me any information then I would be able to make an intelligent decision as to how to handle this issue. I can delay the delivery of the car to the body shop for a little bit but not indefinitely.

My 2006 roof separated in 2008. All I had to do was bring the top in, not the car. They paint matched the new top with the old top. They then transfer the old hardware (latches) from your old top to the new top. Picked up the top a few days later with my truck. Paint match was near perfect and the fit was exactly as it was with the old top.

#1 The dealership states that they "know nothing" of a current or pending recall on any Corvette.

Last I heard the recall covered all C6 coupes thru 07 not sure if it covers the hard tops. Instructions to dealers may have not been released but if you have a copy of the recall as CMY SIX states, the dealership will not be able to deny knowledge. Did exactly this with the TIB on the roof rattle that I learned about on this forum! If you do not have confidence in your dealership then you will need to find another shop that can handle the recall whether it is a dealership or an authorized GM repair vendor...... Good luck

The thing I worry about most is the local dealer's overall LACK of experience with Vettes (or picky Vette owners). Dealership has changed hands multiple times recently and just changed ownership again in the last month. In 2007 they had 1 new Corvette that finally sold in early 2008. NO 2008 or 2009 Vettes sold by that dealer. I had service work performed by them once in the past on a new Tahoe I had purchased (recall work installing a gas tank shield) and when I picked the vehicle up there was grease all over the door panel on the inside. Sure - could have been a fluke - but I don't trust them at all. I'd leave the roof but that's about it. I'm almost tempted to ignore the recall because I have zero problems with the existing top (mine's an 05) and the vehicle spends minimal time in the sun to delaminate the original glue.

That being said, when my roof delaminated, I just took the top in. No way were they getting my entire car. I had no problems what so ever. The paint is perfect and it fits fine.

Okay, I know that I am not the most knowledgeable individual and will cheerfully admit it but I would like to have someone explain one part of the on-going NHSTA-mandated recall/replacement for my 'Vette.
Since the '05 has a history of losing its lid, even with the foam injection process to the extent that both the U.S. and Japanese governments are engaged it would seem reasonable that it would receive a new roof based upon the year of manufacture.
QUESTION: Why does the dealership need to know the "exact mileage" of the car rather than the fact that it was built in January 2005? I have no problem with providing them that data but, for the life of me, cannot understand the requirement.
