I have been looking to put a npp exhast system on my 08 non npp.I see zo6 exhast systems for a lot less money than the regular npp.Other than having to adapt the 3 in to the base system how much differance is there or a better question is how much diff is the sound.I quess I don't under stand the price variance.I also understand that a x pipe is a must

I bought the complete Z06 exhaust (manifold to mufflers) and installed it on my 08 coupe MN6. Everything fit. Just had to get two O2 cable extensions to reach the rear O2 sensors. I also opened the mufflers and did the mod on the perforated pipe. Very pleased with this setup. I bought the entire exhaust for $650. A used C6 NPP muffler set, if you can find someone selling it, typically go for over $900. I also bought the NPP in a box, but have not installed yet. The mufflers are in the open position without vacuum and the sound is quite nice.
If you are interested in discussing this, let me know and I will PM you with phone number.
The NPP seems to be the more desireable of the two. This is due to two factors in my opinion. First will be ease of installation since the NPP (pre-2009) is a direct bolt on replacement and requires no adaptation to the non bi-mode exhaust equipped C6. As you've noted, the Z06 exhaust uses a 3" pipe and unless you bolt on the entire Z06 exhaust from headers to mufflers you will need to do some cutting and welding. The second factor and probably the one with a larger contribution to the selling prices is sound. The Z06 exhaust is tuned for the LS7 motor. As such, when paired with an LS2 or LS3 it is a little milder sounding. It isn't as deep and it isn't as loud. It is still a nice sound but it just isn't the sound you get from the NPP. I'll be putting the Z06 on my 2005 Coupe for both price and sound reasons. The Z06 when opened up sounds great and is both deeper and louder than the stock mufflers
