I believe that's a HUD (heads up display) which is a feature that comes on C6 'vettes that have more bells and whistles than does mine.
Those of us who don't have the HUD feature are convinced it is just another distraction to keep your mind and your eyes off the road as you talk on your cell phone.
BTW, cars with the head unit will only be found on "Off Topic", where pretty much anything is possible.

The OEM Head Unit with the large display is a NAV w/touchscreen.

It is integrated with the HUD and will display turn arrows at appropriate times.

This is also a popular mod/upgrade to the base/Bose stereo using either the OEM unit or aftermarket.

The aftermarket NAV's will not integrate with the HUD but do everything else as well as the OEM or better.

There are three choices of factory radio (headunit).

The base radio which comes with a single in dash CD player and will have a traditional LCD display. This is RPO US8.

The upgraded radio with an in-dash six CD changer This is RPO US9.

The radio that you saw is an OEM navigation radio with a touch screen radio interface and GPS navigation system. This is RPO U3U.

The descriptions in the order guide are as follows:

US8
Audio system, AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback,
seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System
(RDS), automatic volume, TheftLock and auxiliary input jack.
Includes (U66) 7-speaker system.

US9
Audio system, AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and
MP3 playback, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio
Data System (RDS), automatic volume, TheftLock and auxiliary input
jack. Includes (U65) Bose premium 7-speaker system.

U3U
Audio system with navigation, AM/FM stereo with CD player, MP3
playback and DVD-based touch-screen navigation, seek-and-scan,
digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System (RDS), automatic
volume, TheftLock, 6.5" LCD color display and voice recognition.
Includes (U65) Bose premium 7-speaker system.

I've also attached a picture of the three radios below. The US8 radio is at the top, the US9 radio in the middle and the U3U radio is on the bottom.

HUH?

Doubt OP was speaking of HUD but, regardless, HUD was available on C5Corvettes, too; NOT just C6 models.

In addition, it's rather difficult to see the HUD without seeing the road ahead, also. It's kinda straight ahead as the driver looks out the windshield.

Peace, out.

You can only order the navigation head unit on a car that has a HUD from the factory. One of the best features of the navigation head unit is the fact that it integrates with the head up display (HUD) and displays radio information and shows the turn by turn directions in the HUD. You would probably be better off simply getting an aftermarket touch screen navigation unit for a car that is not HUD equipped.

It would be more cost and more work to install the factory navigation unit since the car is not equipped from the factory with the necessary connections that you would need to make it work. You would need to install a custom wire harness to integrate the navigation head unit, it will not have HUD integration and it will not have voice activated commands. Personally for the time and cost to do this an aftermarket unit with the features available today would likely be a more cost effective solution.

You're confusing me with the HUD and ride stiffness question but yes the HUD is common and I wouldn't consider a car without it.
