I had to swerve to miss an object on the freeway today. But when I was doing so I had to slow down and my brakes felt like it was about to fall off. A whole bunch of rattling, and the pedal was hard to press also. Its back to normal now but was kind of wierd.

That is odd. Nope, never happened to me. Maybe Talon90 (Paul) knows.
Have you ever got into the antilock braking system before? They do rattle loudly and shake the brake pedal under your foot. I'll bet when you steered quickly and braked at the same time, you unloaded a tire enough to activate the antilock braking system. On the 'Vette with the really wide tires, its takes a lot sometimes to activate them...

It's antilock happening. Get in an empty parking lot and try to recreate the swerving / braking scenario just as you did on the highway. It will happen again. The first time I experienced antilock braking taking place it was just as you described. A lot of rattling and no matter how hard I pressed the brake pedal the car would not slow any quicker. Make sure you have plenty of room in AN EMPTY LOT. No wrecks is the idea!

Definitely just the ABS working like it should. Been there, done that, trying to never do it again. As least you know where the limit was in that particular situation. Most people never get near the limits in this car.

Everyone, like OP, we need to go out there and test the ABS so we know what it feels like. the worst case scenario has been when people let go of the brake pedal because of the "strange" feeling of ABS being activated.
Probably more than ABS at work. Since he was swerving quickly the Active Handling probably kicked in as well. AH will cause the pedal to vibrate faster than ABS alone will. From the FSM:
"When braking during VSES activation, the pedal pulsations feel different than the ABS pedal pulsations. The brake pedal pulsates at a higher frequency during VSES activation."
Go out and try it someplace where you will not cause an accident if you suddenly jam on the brakes. Get the car up to about 60 mph and just hammer the brake pedal. Again, do not do this if somebody is less than a thousand feet behind you. Under this situation ABS is a very violent action. The whole car will vibrate as the wheels lock/unlock and the pedal vibrates.

YAW: "The rotation of the vehicle's body around its center point as viewed from above. When a vehicle enters a turn or makes a sudden lane change, it experiences a change in yaw. A yaw sensor in the ABS stability control system senses this change to determine if the vehicle is experiencing understeer or oversteer. If the yaw rate indicates a problem, corrective actions are taken to help keep the vehicle under control."
I leanred about the YAW sensors on the corvette on my 2000 - And, GLAD I did. Was racing a BMW on hwy at about 120 - A car changed lanes in front of me - And, I banked HARD 2 lanes to the right and found myself in the emergency lane and SOON was about to be off of the road - I thought it was over. BUT, the YAW sensors (I'm sure part of the traction control system) kicked the brakes in and it was like in "Slow Motion" (because I thought I was about to die...) But, I literally FELT each brake hit at different times and for different intervals to get my car straightened back out. All in a matter of milliseconds. It was incredible - Happened so fast that I did not even lift off of the peddle - And, retained about 110 out of the skid - all nice and straight.
Now, I admit that was stupid - But, NOW looking back, funs as hell feeling.... Damn great car for the money. If I were in the Viper - I would have been TOAST.......

I'm proud to say that I DO NOT street race.
I'm proud to say that I DO NOT put innocent people in danger so I can have fun.
I'm proud to say I will NOT KILL an innocent mother, father, daughter, son, brother or sister because of my negligence.
