Default irritating squeaks, noise

i probably used a whole roll of ace's weatherstripping foam to insert underneath the plastic areas to stop this irriating squeak everytime i'm on a rough road. it's so annoying! i even greased the weatherstrippings w/ silicone, and probelm is still there. i give up. my other car (04 mach 1) doesn't have this problem. what's up with that gm?

I agree, i bought mine brand new and after 100 miles it was full of squeeks and rattles. It's mainly in the doors on mine.

Do you think it's something with the '07? We (07 owners) seem to have little or no issues. It like once GM got it right, out comes the '08 changes just to give the dealers something new to fix.

My '07 is darn near perfect. I do get chutter in cold weather, haven't done the TSB yet. Waiting for the 3rd revision before I try it. (GM didn't want the 07s to be too good, people may come to expect it I guess.)

my 07 was built 12/06 and got it in 2/07....some issues i had were the popping noise on the roof latch, diff. chatter, oil pan gasket leak - all were fixed. the latest is this squeaking noise when i'm on rough road. just can't find the source, tried to remedy it but still there that i gave up

Maybe I'm just lucky because I have none of those issues except the diff noise (my fault not getting the TSB done). No roof components missing so I seem to be good there too.

I've owned a few vettes and I can't remember having one without a squeak, but now that you mention it, I haven't heard one in my 07. Of course, maybe I'm used to them by now.

But for the most part I don't see alot of '07 issues. The oil pan gasket leak unfortunitely must be an hung-over employee in Bowling Green as that seems to be an isolated issue, not a design issue.

It can be very irritating having a squeek like that, not that my Vette has it but I have had cars that did.
Maybe just press on the gas a bit more!

There can be lots of sources for rattles and squeaks on this car. In the doors, the most common problem is loose strikers. There are also rattles in the dash that can develop, windows rattling against dry weatherstripping, and roof hardware in the coupes rattling.

If your car is under warranty, your best bet is to just let the dealer handle it. If not, any good body shop should be able to find and fix the sources of the noise.

I've had a few squeaks in the plastic trim as well.
When I added foam tape between the pieces it actually made the squeaking worse.
I think that adding the tape causes a little bit of stress on the plastic - which leads to more noise.
So, I removed the tape & rubbed in some bees wax in between the trim pieces.
That did the trick. Now the interior is, for the most part, silent again.

Been lucky with my 07 for the most part. If the roof didn't pop during hot weather and the windows didn't rattle against the roof in cold weather, this would be the quiestest car I've owned. No noises anywhere other than the roof! Keep waiting to hear something from the console or doors, but so far, no other issues.

Well, my '07 is a LONG LONG LONG way from good. But, after four other Corvettes I expect them to be noisy.

How do you adjust the strikers? I've had the car at the dealership 3 times already without them being able to fix the problem. I was getting squeaks from the weather stripping around the windows and where the convertable top rests on top of the windshield. Those were stopped with the liberal applicaiton of some silicone spray, but I still have a noise in the doors. When I hit a bump just right one of the doors (which one depends on the bump) bangs against the striker. I think if I can tighten up the door the weather strip squeaks will go away.

The strikers are a two piece design and very prone to rattling. I was actually able to rattle one of them with my hand. They can be replaced, hoping the newer one is tighter, or they can be spot welded in place. I had one of mine spot welded and the other replaced. In both cases the rattling was eliminated.

I've had good luck with silicone grease for most other minor rattles and prefer it to the spray.

The most annoying squeak I had in my '05 and is very present in my brother's '06 as well comes from just above the instrument cluster. I could stop it by either pulling up on the dash just above the gauge cluster, or by pinching it and the plastic retainer underneath.

I shoved a folded up piece of paper in the gap between the dash and the retainer, and it helped only slightly. Then I wised up and stuck the paper in between the retainer and the clear gauge cover from the back side, and it's gone.

When I got home, I put a piece of weather stripping around the inner edge of the retainer and squeak/creak is gone and you can't tell the weather stripping is there.

There are few others I'll get here and there on various surfaces but none that bothered me like that one.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had my vette out tonight running some errands. I even went over two speed bumps; not a rattle or squeak to be heard. As I said, I must be lucky. Truth is, my 07 vette is darn near perfect. Only issue (and only one) is the diff chatter, but I don't really care.

Hope you enjoy your vette for many years.
