Default Little prayer..

Just dropped the JSB off at the dealer for some warranty work, could everyone as they head to bed tonight say a little prayer for the safe return of my Vette, that the dealer will not screw something up like they always seem to do..

Don’t think I’ll sleep much until I get it back..

In for a couple know issues, the scarping sound when backing up/turning, an annoying “clunk” when go over any speed bump or driveway entry, and a high pitched brake squeal any time the brakes are lightly applied.

Think two TSB’s on the first issues, not sure about the brakes.. Delivered car Oct 17/07 with 12002 miles on it.

Screw-up’s..

1. In my C5 the headlight motor went. They replaced the motor but for some reason did not use correct hardware when installing. Within a short period (just long enough to be out of warranty), the motor again burnt out. I went and bought a new motor prior to taking the old one out, but when I did finally get the one out and saw what they used for hardware, I took the old motor and hardware in to the service manager. He agreed shoddy workmanship and said would pay outright for the new one. However, when I presented him the bill he had another idea.. he would reimburse me for the new one, and then submit a warranty claim as if it was a warranty issue…

2. A couple weeks after having the C5 in for headlight work, in the evenings when the car was parked under a street light, the headlight cover (on the side they did the work) appeared “different”, something just not right about the color. This really started to bug me so after a while I took a close look at the cover, then headed down to the dealer. Seems that when my car went in for servicing I had two Pewter headlight covers, but when I got it out of service, I had one Pewter and one Silver… wonder if the guy with the Silver Vette ever figured out why his headlight cover looked weird. Anyway, dealer got in touch with a body shop who said would fix it up by blending the front end.. hey, like this is a brand new car (1000 miles or so) and nobody is going to “blend” anything. The body shop did up 10 different samples of Pewter, provided the sample shots to me and I picked the one I felt was closest to the color of the car.

3. Had the C5 in to dealer and when they washed it (despite my NO BLEEPING WASH request) they screwed up the window tint I had on the drivers side. Had to have the tint removed and new one installed.

4. Technician ‘boot’ marks on doorsill.. not once but twice in the C5 and now once in the C6. LIFT YOUR BLEEPING FEET..

5. Always a little nick or mark someplace, and I guess because I don’t want them to wash the car, they feel that means not having to clean the greasy finger marks off the steering wheel, gear shift and door handles..

6. Left the C6 for servicing that didn’t require the vehicle be driven, but had 20+ miles added to the odometer, car jockey going for lunch? Someone take it home for the evening? Or someone trying out that throaty LS3 on the freeway that the dealer is next to?

These are some of the ones I can remember, minor in respect to what I’m sure others have experienced with dealers, but enough to make me cringe anytime I need to leave the baby with them.

What Dealership are you going to? I have had good luck at Thorobred (on the Chandler / Gilbert border) when my 09 Vert needs service.

Service manager there has a Z06 (and auto X's it) and takes a personal interest in my Vette when I am there. I think he is an officer in one of the local Vette Clubs here as well.

I bought the car from Thorobred but just dropped it off at Power (Superstition) for service as T is quite a ways from my residence. Yes, have talked with him (service manager) and he is a member of the club that meets (or used to, not sure if still does) at T.

I feel your pain and fully understand. I am already worried about this painted top recall looming..... I am in sales to the automotive field and see VERY few places that I would let paint anything I own. I am just too picky and am aware of it. I think at this point and hearing your story my top will stay like it is. I am not even sure it will be in the recall but fear it will as it is a 3/07 production car. I can see no problem with the top now and it matches just perfect. Anybody else have stories good or bad??? I do like the reply where the service manager is a Vette guy. Here is my prayer for yours, I hope it all comes out well for you.

I pray that the tech gets the best shot of booty tonight that he's ever had, and that he goes right to bed and gets a good 8 hrs. of REM sleep. I also pray that he will be fully awake in the morning in order to determine the correct side of the bed to crawl out of. Oh, and also that McDonald's does not screw up his egg McMuffin on his way to work.

Default Thanks.. but should also have asked for..

Seems the little prayers helped, barely a mark.. but wish that tech had gotten more of his REM sleep cuz two-boot scuffs on the sill.. luckily was able to get them off.

HOWEVER, the car is back there again tonight for a sleep over!

Tech was able to decipher the annoying “clunk”, replaced front and rear end links.

However, the scraping sound when backing up/turning wasn’t resolved. Couldn’t hear it so can’t do anything about it (so I’m told) even though there is a TSB on what appears to be the very same issue.

They theorized about possible causes, one being I don’t drive it each day so the oil in the diff was draining down off the plates (?) and if driven more frequently this wouldn’t happen. So this morning, and having driven it last night, I hopped in, backed out of the garage, making sharp turn and THERE IT WAS, that bleeping scraping sound. Therefore, JSB is having a sleep over at dealer tonight to see if they can re-create the issue when cold.

And.. does anybody else have this because I’ve been told its normal.. brake squeal. When applying slight pressure to the brake petal, and at a low rate of speed, there is a low, barely audible high-pitched squeal. Have never had that on my C5 but guess its normal on C6’s????

my first time in, the valet scraped the chit out of the chin pulling it into bay area and they had to keep it for an extra week for a re-paint. i chit you not, when i went to pick it up, the valet (a different one) scraped the chin again on the cement parking stop when he pulled it into a spot.

There are 2 things you can do. #1 take a Valium before you have service done. #2 Get a new damn dealer or place you can trust to do the work.#3 Join a local Corvette club which is what I did. These guys are intense and now I have a list of great service providers tried and true. I have used them and never in 6 years had a problem.

I am worried that you have let your car possess you. You are supposed to own it, not the other way around. I am very protective of my car, but I save the praying (assuming it works) for the important stuff. Like good health and the safe return of our brothers and sisters standing a watch overseas That being said, I hope your baby makes it out in the same shape it went in and they solve your problems.
