My C6 auto has been awesome. Recently I changed my wheels over from repro Zo6 wheels to repro spyders. On my first outing, through some good corners, my passenger and I smelled some burning... or something hot. All my guages/temps were right one. I pulled over and got out to give it a look. Brakes don't feel hot, the wheels are not hitting, but the smell seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I can't figure it out....
the ONLY thing that was changed was the wheels! The car is not acting funny, not making any odd noises... nothing. I've driven it several times since and while the smell isn't as bad, but when I lean over, I still get a hint of the smell. It smells like rubber burning or some sort of material burning.
Any ideas??? I'm going to have the wheels balanced again, and when I put them back on, I'm going to remove the clip that locks the rotors. I've been told that it can make things tough to balance.
now that is funny. Yea, I've looked around both rear wheels and have had both off looking for something. Now that you guys say it though, I did see some soot around the exhaust the other day. thought it was some sort of gasket material around the connection... but duh why would there be gasket material on a exhaust connection at the back. Must have been it. I'll go clean it off tonight and see what the result is. Probably cought something on the exhaust on the trip and it burned on to the exhaust pipe. Has to be what it is.
