Default E-Brake

I was wondering how hard it is to R & R the brake lever as I'm getting ready to order a new one ?

Thanks in advance,

One set screw & it comes right off........pull the boot back & you'll see said screw. Torx head if memory serves.

The most trouble I ever had was trying to pull the silver top thing off when I put the new handle in my 05.I basically destroyed that thing with nicks and scratches.

It depends. If you order the new one from GM it is a pretty involved process to completely remove the e-brake lever assembly.

If you are just replacing the boot and or the handle, very straightforward.

You said lever in your post but the responses you received are specific to the removal of the handle.

When I've worked on my handle and button I was able to remove it as a function of removing the handle. Pulling off the handle in my car, also removed the button. When I replace it, I drop the button down in to the opening of the handle and then just use the handle to press the button back on.

I have heard of others with a little (or a lot) more difficulty which I've always chalked up to fit or tolerance differences with the button or detent. As you know, the button is a just molded plastic part and it press fits over a detent on the top of the release mechanism at the top of the brake lever which is then ultimately trapped by the leather handle grip.

Sounds easy enough to remove the lever, just pull the boot down and remove the screw. Now but what about the button, is that spring loaded and how easy is it to get off without messing it up ?

If you are talking about the silver cap, It is not spring loaded. It is simply press fit on a detent on top of the lever. I've had mine off several times and have never "messed it up."
