I came to my car yesterday and saw that there was some tar on the clearbraed hood of my car I removed i using a microfiber towel. I had to rub pretty hard, and when it was all gone i realized under the light that I'd made some scratches.
I don't know how to post pics. If someone can help I'll post a picture.
My question is, without going through the clearbra, is it possible that i scratched the paint or clearcoat under it by applying too much pressure or are the scratches confined to the bra itself?
I would think the scratches you are seeing are on the clearbra and not the actual car surface. It is hard to imagine scratches going through the clearbra just by rubbing it with a microfiber towel. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on clearbras will respond to your situation, if not I would suggest you post this in the Car Care Section.
I seriously doubt that you went all the way through the clear bra --- I'd have to say no way..........the scratches are confined to your clear bra.
That said, they may be even more challenging to get out that if they were in your clear coat. If your installer is nearby, I'd run the car by there and get their opinion on what to use or try....
Thank you for the replies.
Airbuspilot, I tried Maguire's Swirl-X and it did nothing at all... Would the Scratch-X be better? Thanks!
Keep in mind that you are going to have to rub harder to get them out than you did putting them there......think of it this way....if you could magnify the scratches, they would look a little like this:
VvVvVvVvvVvVvVvV.......what you are seeing is the points of those "v's".
To get them out that section is going to have to look like this _________________
What kind of film is it, Venture Shield, 3M? From my own experience, if you have scratches on Venture Shield you're pretty much done and there is not much that you can do to get rid of them. You have to keep a thick layer of wax on V.S. or you'll end up with bug acid residue, scratches, etc.
With 3M you can use 70% rubbing alcohol to get rid of fine scratches. Make sure that the surface is cool and clean, pour the alcohol on the film, spread it with a clean towel, let the alcohol evaporate and buff it gently with a dry towel. (3M info copied from installer's site)
Sometimes you can use a heat gun and certainly on the VentureShield clearbra. This will cause it to slightly melt and re-surface itself but make sure that area is absolutely clean first.
