I have a question about the traction control on my 2009 C6. I read a lot of threads here where drivers seem to experience the rear end slide when the tires break loose. I have also experienced this in second gear if I hit the accelerator a bit too hard. I would have thought the traction control would help keep the car pointed in a straight direction.
Forgive my lack of technical understanding. Any thoughts?
Traction control will blunt the effects of extreme acceleration but not totally prevent it. Switch it off and you're in the next lane or a curb. It works. IF you want a vehicle that totally controls everything and removes all risk/excitement look at a Buick or Toyota.
TC and AH are doing more than you think. Turn them off and drive the car at it's limits to find out. Just don't do it on the streets. Mostly AH keeping you in a straight line.

I suppose these people can't stand the thought of the launch control on the 2010s?
I have run Deals Gap several times, in " very " spirited driving, ah hemmm,
and felt the active handling kick in and was grateful it was there. A good driver can out drive the active handliing 9 out of 10 times. The 10th time your ole butt is in deep weeds or worse. Road course, skilled, driver that is experienced with the power and limits of his car, turn off the nannies if you wish. Just my experience.
I agree, the TC does much more than you probably realize ~ I'll trade "breaking lose" for keeping it out of the ditch any day. You've got a lot of hp and torque under your foot... can be a life saver.

My experiance with TC is this,,,, Summer of 09 I was heading to my 30th High School Reunion of which was a 6 hr drive for me. I took my 08 vette and as I was half way there going about 65mph on a two lane road I came upon some very wet roads from a rainstorm that I was now in. My lane was very tire grooved and when I hit those rain filled lanes my rear end started breaking loose and as soon as it did I see my flashing yellow/orange (im color blind) light on my dash saying that the Traction Control kicked in.. And you know what ? That thing pulled me back straight as a string regaining full control of the car. If it hadnt been for the TC, I doubt if I would have made it to my High School Reunion......I did from that point slow down some too!!. yes it works!!! later rj

and don't even do it in a parking lot with lots of light poles.
For the previous poster -Maybe we should keep us all safer and be nice guys and concerned about cars and like to help people and especially keep kids safe and take away all your controls all the time!!!

I'm not an expert either, but I have learned that traction control won't always overcome a quick full jab of the pedal when shifting. On some road surfaces I have had the tires break loose to the point of a rear end slide in 2nd gear, and on other occasions my car bogged down briefly as though the fuel had been completely shut off. TC can be helpful, but it has limitations.
I was a professional driver for a widely known and respected automotive television review show, and unless I'm on a race track with a medical crew standing by, I leave everything ON!
Not that I can't control it if things get spirited, I'd just rather not have to in traffic.
I agree with the "I would rather have the nannies on then end up in the ditch" crowd. The few times AH has kciked in when doing some spirited driving my thought was "OK, not sure what would have happened with nannies off, but glad I'm not in a position I regret".
Hooray for all expert drivers who turn them off and never have an issue. You win the big prize (whatever that is).

Don't listen to these guys telling you to turn off the nannies on the street. I'm not even going to try to figure out their reasoning.
Street - all nannies on
Autox - all off
Dragstrip - TC off AH on
Track - Your call
On the C5; TC and AH seemed to jump in during spirited street driving, so I got in the habit of going into Competitive mode as soon as i started the car if the roads weren't wet.
On the C6, the systems seem less intrusive and I leave them all on except for "learning the limits" driving in safe areas.
