maybe a not so smart question but how long will the tank on a c6 last once your dash has told you low gas....just curious to know how much further the car will run until it just shuts down on you...i assume there really is no reserve tank on here and it doesnt seem like anyone has ever driven their car that low on gas?...the console starts letting you know once you have about 45 miles left...but from that point until the "low gas" or whatever that was that came on, it seemed pretty quick...
We've got an 18 gallon tank and yes, it does show as being empty when you're at about 2 gallons left. I suppose they don't want corvettes on the side of the road looking broke down
I've driven another 30 miles on the highway after I got the low gas warning. I filled the tank up with about 16.5 gallons of gas after that.
My 2 C6s have had about 2 gallions left. The only safe way to know what your car does is to go lower each time and see how much gas it takes to fill up!
is there anyway to show how many milea re left on the car?...once it says "low gas" i couldnt set the dash to show me how many miles were left...it just stayed on low gas the whole time...

I think that's by design. Since the 'miles to empty' is just an estimate, if GM let the car continue to show an actual miles-to-empty number, people would complain bitterly and constantly that their car was 'broken' since it ran out of gas, with the display still showing '3 miles to empty' or some such.
hah...true...just enjoy the ride is what ive been doing...with a smile on my face every day im in it...although i scraped the steering wheel again...ugh...my jacket must be catching on and scraping the steering wheel...anyone know how i can clean this up?...its not like the leather was ripped or pulled, just a scrape...just sucks cause i feel it...oh well...daily driver, what are you to do...lol
@ gallons here too.
I was able to go 40 miles after the "low fuel" message displayed.
I forgot to fill up on the way from Yuma to Phoenix. I looked down and said "crap, I forgot to get gas".... The next town was Tonopah on I-10
36 miles...... I drove like an old lady for the remaining 36 miles.
When I got to the gas station, I put 16.5 gallons in.
For what it is worth, when I was doing the museum delivery, the tour guide suggested not running the fuel low, here is why. The Corvette has 2 fuel tanks behind each seat. There is a pump that keeps the tanks equal. If you run low on fuel, these pumps can overheat. The fuel cools the pumps.
I am new to Corvettes. I believe the fuel pump is in the tank. A general rule with the fuel pump in the tank is to not run the car below a quarter full. The pumps are designed for the fuel to keep them cool. They will run, but the longetivity of the FP is reduced. In some cars changing the FP is a real PITA.
I did the same thing; I was travelling west on I-70 in Utah from a trip to Nebraska when I got the "Fuel Low" signal. I went, "oh, crap" (actually using other colorful metaphors) and stopped about 40 miles later to put in 16.5 gallons, whew! In reality, I wasn't too worried because I was smart enough to carry a 2-gallon plastic can with me from Autozone.....I only do this on long trips.

We all assume the tank actually holds 18 gallons. I'm guessing you'd need to fill it until fuel was running out the filler, and even then a slight variation in tank molding could leave you with slightly less.
It's hard to get much more gas into a C6 after the pump shuts itself off, but I figure I'm still 1/2 gal short or more, at that point. Is anyone willing to take a hit for the team and runs his C6 until it quits, then measure what it takes to absolutely top off the tank? Please post your results...
I run on 'low fuel' frequently here in hot AZ, certainly days or even weeks at less than a 1/4 tank, and never had a fuel pump problem in my C5, C6 or any other vehicle I've owned here. How hot do you think any fuel pump would get, designed to sit right there within the gas tank itself? I have heard and read enough technical people refute this concern, and feel at this time it has to be just old Corvette owner's wive's tales.

thumbs:
I put 17.6 gallons in once, and the car was still running!
