Default Not Start Problem

Last week I found the battery was dead (new battery less than a year old) I had to use the key to unlock, pop the hood and put a charge on the battery. A couple hours later my car started with no problem. It's been a week since I last started it. Today the door opened and all electrical turns on just fine only when I press the start button I get no sound at all. Nothing that seems like the starter is trying to engage or any noise at all. I notice that the amp gage shows 12 volts. The check engine light is on. Any ideas what is wrong or what I need to do to get back to cruzin? Thanks in advance for the time or help.

I believe that if the battery is bad, you will get a No Fob Detected message on the DIC. From your post, it doesn't sound like that is the case.

the battery got too low. Same thing happened to me.

Really, the only thing to do is to jump it and get it charged back up then buy a $30 Battery Tender Jr and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

Best $30 mod you'll purchase.

How long can these cars sit without a run to keep the charge?

2-3 weeks in the winter seems to be about the limit before they start to die.

You have to run the car at least 20 minutes to charge it back up.

But once you completely kill the OEM battery, it will never be as good as it was before, and if it was bad to begin with, you'll probably have to replace it.

A Battery Tender is a necessary evil, but fortunately they aren't too expensive.

My car sat 5 months for each of the first 2 winters without any battery charger/tender but couldn't make the third. After the third year I replaced the battery and have kept a charger on it through the winter since.

I've left mine twice for three weeks and it started. I don't use a tender either. My OEM battery died at 22 months. I replaced it with an Optima RED. It's 35 months old and still going strong.

Battery is low or may even be gone....try charging it and if that doesn't work, then it needs replacement.

Default Fuse?

Ok. The battery is fine. All electrical works...lights, interior, gages, nav (or it comes on). When I press the start button it just will not turn over. The amp gage shows on the + side of 12 volts. Is there a fuse that would prevent power from going to the starter?

Just because all the electrical stuff comes on does not mean that the battery is OK. The C6 electronics are very sensitive to low voltage and exactly what you describe can be caused by a low battery.

battery is not fine. take it out, take it to your local auto parts store. have them test it and if it passes (Ill bet you a beer it will) have them charge it fully. It will take them 1 hour ( they normally have a pretty nice charger). Normally free of charge. reinstall, tighten connections, and go buy a battery tender. I will go out on a limb on this and guarantee that this will fix it. If not i will give you your money back.

Well, the battery is putting out over 12 volts with more amps that needed to start. I guess it's to the dealership. Is there a device to hook up to the connection under the dash that will show codes of what is wrong?

This happened to my 07 yesterday. Try this, get in car push brake pedal several times, move shifter and them press the accessory side of the start button then hit the start button. This worked for me.

You may have an issue with the clutch safety switch. Make sure you have the clutch all the way down.

Did you have the battery load tested? it may show 12V+ on the surface charge but will drop significantly under load.

My Z had a dead battery today. We had snow, and subzero temps for about two weeks, so it just sat in the garage. Jumped it, and drove it around for about 45 minutes. Stopped at a convenience store, forgot about the dead battery, and shut the car off. Thought to myself...Oh ****, but it fired right back up.

Ok, try putting a meter across the battery and see if you have a minimum of 12.5 vdc available. Next, check out the solenoid connection to see if its clean and tight. Do not forget that its electrically hot there. Next check all of the fuses. Lastly, get a code reader and pull the codes. As already mentioned, if its an MM6 or MZ6 tranny, check the clutch switch otherwise check out the park switch for the autos.

12.5vdc means very little unless under load or it won't hold that charge after it's been re-charged. The rest I agree with.

I also remember reading a thread a while ago that was also the cause for headache with my 2005 vert A4. The positive cable from the battery goes to the solenoid. So does the cable from the alternator. I took it off, cleaned it, made sure the connection was tight, put sealant on it, and everything went back to charging fine. Not sure if charging is a problembut hey, any little bit of info helps. If it's then somebody can buy me some Johnny Walker (I'm cheap... red will do) and I'll go about my way

Before you take it to the dealer, read this:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ocked-out.html

Something killed your battery a week ago. And it will happen again -- and will prevent the car from starting -- until you find out what's wrong.

It might be an elec problem, which your dealer can fix.

Or it might be some combination of: infrequent winter use, short trips, colder weather, not parked in reverse gear (05 manual trans only), Dead-Battery-Syndrome (05 only), left-knee-activated-interior-light-switch, teenage son listening to the radio.

I'm very curious -- when you finally solve the problem, let us know what fixed it.
