Default On Star Module Removal

I am considering removing the on star module and replacing it with costar. Question, from other posts the module is located in the right storage compartment( 08 coupe ) but the storage compartment and lining is one molded piece. Anyone know how to remove the liner to gain access to the on star module. Does not appear to be an easy job. I cannot locate clips etc. to facilitate removal.

Just fold the top of the compartment trim liner (all 4 sides) inboard and then lift the trim up and out. There are no clips.

Good luck with your CoStar.

Here is a post from bksnoopy and some pix from the repair manual. Hope it helps.

From bksnoopy on the CF. 7/14/08

OnStar is EASY to disable....

a) Remove the one and only fuse for OnStar

b) At the back of your car, open the right rear storage compartment, the OnStar module is in there, you might have to pry up the carpet to get at the VCIM (OnStar Module).

c) UNPLUG connectors J1, J2 & J3 ...and UNPLUG the 2 antenna connections. One antenna is for OnStar's GPS signal. (If you have a 3LT car w/NAV, don't worry, the NAV has it's own GPS antenna!) The second antenna is OnStar's Cellular Phone Antenna.

d) The 4th connector, J4, is part of your car's Computer Network Data Bus. LEAVE that connector alone! If you unplug J4, your engine will not start. If you REALLY want the OnStar module out of your car THAT bad, you NEED to install a termination resistance! The "easiest solution" is to just leave the OnStar module in the car with J4 connected! The OnStar module will be TOTALLY DEAD!!

I'm thinking about giving this a shot to but would like to know how smoothly the process went for you (I have an 08 coupe as well). I would also be very interested in hearing how well the system works for you and if you've discovered any limitations with costar.

Thanks,

Bodie
