I called my dealer on a price to buy the personal audio link and have it installed on my 08 vette with nav. They want 400.00. My next question was will it work with my 3G Iphone and charge at the same time, he did not know the answer, so before I spend this money does anyone know or have this set-up ? Thanks.
You can buy an adapter that will charge it and all newer generations. Check out the sticky above on PAL questions. It has all you ever need to know about PAL installations and operation.
Unless you are dead set against doing it yourself, get Ray Kawal's harness and you can install it in well under 30 minutes. Read the sticky at the top of the general discussion page and you can find instruction on getting this harness from Ray. One of the great things about his harness (other than ease of installation) is that you won't be cutting any of your factory wiring so you can go back to stock easily. Also, be sure to check out the forum vendors for a price on the PAL. They can get it to you much cheaper than your local dealer. Partstaxi.com and gmpartshouse.com are both reputable forum vendors and I've had great experiences with both.
I just went out to my car and plugged in my IPhone 3G, and it did charge it! I also have the adapter. Seems Apple changed the charging from 12V to 5V, or vice-versa, something like that.....so the adapter is necessary for the IPhone to charge correctly. Haven't plugged in my IPod yet to see what it does....that will be soon tho, since I just cancelled my XM today!!!
Edit: I purchased my PAL through Gene....super price, and FAST shipping!!!! Used the sticky DIY from Ray, and the entire install was a snap!!! Great to be part of such a fantastic family here on the forum!!

Well, it took me an hour 'cause I'm slow.
In addition to his comments above, keep in mind that your dealer tech might be doing your car for his very first time.
What tipped me over the edge to getting Ray's harness was the issue of cutting wires for the GM installation procedure.

That is true, remember the tech may be learning on your car and you would be paying him for the privelidge . It's not a hard install at all for a DIY.

And he has a good price. It really isn't hard, even without the easy adapter kit
The "PAL" is around $150.00, so your dealer wants to charge you $350.00 for a 45 min to an hour install? Run from that place.
This is not a very hard DYI install. But, if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, a good audio shop can do it. And for a lot less money than your dealer.

I thought the price was way out of line too. They wanted 190.00 for the part and 175 install plus taxes.
