Turning left at a nearby busy intersection this afternoon I inadvertently drove over a deep pothole. Not fast at all, but two seconds later the TPMS lit up the DIC. The right rear was losing pressure fast. I have the Pirelli Sottozeros mounted, so I had to get off the road in a hurry. I was able to turn into an apartment parking lot as the TPMS hit zero PSI. Fortunately I was only about four blocks from the storage locker where I keep my my floor jack and summer tires. I called a friend with a truck and within 30 minutes we had the flat winter tire & wheel swapped with its GS2 summer counterpart.
I'll load it into the vert's trunk and take it to my dealership first thing tomorrow morning to see if they can repair it. I'm hoping all that happened was the pothole strike while turning pushed the bead away from the rim for a fraction of a second -- just enough to vent most of the air pressure. I hope I didn't break a chrome wheel.
The pot holes around my town, are getting out of control .I don't know if they are waiting for Spring to repair them or what.
Sonoma County in NorCal has some of the worst F'ing potholes I have ever seen. I had to switch specifically to forged rims on a 3 series I had a few years back cause I kept bending the damn things on backroads. Before I bitch too much though, I have to admit that we have some absolutley racetrack smooth roads that are off the hook fun in a Vette.
I guess we have to put up with some of these...
In order to get to some of these......

Reason: dupluicate word
I just got back from the dealership. The sidewall is damaged and cannot be repaired. Mind you I was only going about 5 mph when I drove over that pothole. Fortunately there's no damage to the chrome wheel. Still, a new right rear will cost me $400. Ugh.

I take it that you do not have the Road Hazard Warranty.....

No, but the pothole did offer to get out her cellular and call a wrecker... Before she realized she didn't have a cell phone because..... She's a pothole!
Ok, I'll stop now with the Geico commercial. K, Bye!

Been there, done that - two wheels, two tires. Fortunately, not on the Vette.....
On my way to Discount tire now to pick up a new front tire. Pothole got me too but only caused a bubble to form on my sidewall. Either way, it needs to be replaced.
It's hard to believe that Illinois takes in all of this money from tolls and other BS and yet every road is covered in potholes (even roads they spent all summer repairing).
Two years ago my wife had a Volvo S40. In one winter (she does mostly city driving) we had to replace 9 tires and 4 bent wheels all from potholes. Since then she moved up to a Ford Edge and has had no issues with the bigger tires (knock on wood).
Red is wearing a new Sottozero on the right rear tonight. All in it cost me $500.
Considering this wasn't a runflat tire and the pothole event occurred on a two-lane road with heavy traffic, I was very lucky there was an apartment complex parking lot to turn into just as the tire bled out. My home was four blocks in one direction, and my storage locker where I keep my floor jack and summer tires was four blocks in the other direction. A friend with a pickup truck was all I needed to replace the flat with its summer counterpart.
And no, I didn't (and don't) have the option to purchase a road hazard 'warranty'.
