I do not like the flames and it will add nothing to the resale value, in fact will most likely be more difficult to sell. I would listen to the wife and find another Vette, no sense in starting off with something you both can not agree on.
I agree - if you're not 100% comfortable with the car, keep looking. The perfect match is out there, you just need to find it and you will know when you do. Otherwise, that one little part that you don't like will haunt you for ever.
If you’re looking online – you might want to check Texas Direct Auto. I’m not sure where you are but they sell on ebay and are located about 10 miles south of Houston. That’s where I bought mine and was very happy with the dealership and no problems with the car. They always average 25 to 35 vettes for sale. You can also do a history report/title check on their website.
By the way – I am in no way connected with this dealership nor do I benefit from anything that they sell – I was just a happy customer.
I almost bought this car. They told me the car was owned by a doctor whom had the ghost flames painted by a local body shop. When he traded the car with them they had the same body shop remove the flames from the hood, truck and roof. They left them on the sides. They quoted me $200 to remove the side flames. They stated you cannot tell they were buffed from the removal areas. They do not have close up photos of those areas.
My inquiry with them was in December before Christmas. Their ebay and auto trader price has dropped a number of times since then.
I have to agree with many of the others. While I think ghost flames can look good on the right car, those look cheap and tacky. Keep looking, you'll find your car.
Pass on this Vette, not worth the aggravation IMO.
Go on autotrader.com and put in your color and specs and see what comes up around the country. Make sure you include pics and prices in you search.
Remember if you find the right vehicle a one way plane ticket is cheap enough.
I live in RI and a friend of mine located a 2008 Z06 in Ohio.
He worked out the deal over the phone and internet and flew out to pick it up and drive it home. It was a beautiful AO 3LZ with linen and ebony interior. Very rare combo
I disagree with the majority of you. If you can have those flames removed for about $200, DO IT! The car is in great shape and is the right color and has more extras than you wanted. The interior looks fantastic. But hey, it's your money....
P.S. Whoever took those photos on that black and white checked floor ought to be hung out to dry. Yuk!
Great input! Wife is not tattoed, and I agree, neither should her Corvette! I am hoping they are stick-ons, but not likely. I've asked for better pictures. This is an offical GM dealer, by the way, but as many do down here, has it listed on ebay as well. He claims his lowest price is just under $31k.
I am curious about your statement about there being much better cars out there at better prices. I certainly haven't seen any, at least with that color, mileage, and option combination. This is literally the first 2006 Monterey Red I've found with Z51, 3LT, paddles and Nav. Any suggestions?
Dave,
Keep looking...I searched for almost a year before I got the car I wanted, color, all options including Z51, etc etc. Your perfect car is out there...somewhere...
