I have an '08 w/nav system and it 1) can't find my home address and 2) can't find several friends addresses??? I have contacted 1) my dealer several times and he can't do anything, 2) he gave me the GM Nav System Tech Support 800# and after talking to several of those people they couldn't help, 3) they had me go to a local dealer and he said it was working as it was suppose to??? It seems to me there are 2 things I want a Nav system to do, 1) provide me with directions to a known address, and 2) provide instructions how to get HOME??? It can't do either!!! Can anyone HELP???

Have a look at the navigation tutorial in the sticky thread at the top of the page.
Have you set your home region correctly? Do you have the correct nav DVD in for your region?
The nav. system is very poor on some addresses. Some streets in Austin have been there for 4 years or more and DO NOT show on the nav. The same streets that were missing on my '05 are misssing on my '08.

Just a Bad Navi!
The Vette Navi is by far the worst Navi I've ever seen!...and yes, you'll find many addresses missing...even if you have the correct region set...
I have Version 5 loaded...
My Garmin Nuvi (cost around $200) blows the GM Navi away. The Garmin didn't even come with a user's manual...it is so easy to use, it is amazing!
The Vette Navi needs a multiple page dissertation to do exactly what the Garmin can do... (BTW, the guy who wrote the sticky did a fabulous job!).
My point here is that the GM Navi is **not** user friendly and takes a lot of good ole' fashioned learnin' for even basic functions...like setting Favorites.
It is not intuitively obvious!
Good Luck....

It isn't the nav system, rather it is he TeleAtlas database.
If all is correct in your settings, then it is the Nav database, I think there are only two suppliers for these databases.
I know as new streets are added to a city it takes two to three years to show up and longer in rural areas. Even when a address is present it still might not lineup on the map where the house is, in my case my address is about 300 yards from where I am actually at.
Yes, GM is at fault to some extent for putting in Denso Nav (They suck) units but also the database supplier is at fault too. Now my Honda has a system that is easy to use and seems to have more info (Of course it's a Alpine system) and uses a different database supplier, however, my address and house do not lineup in that system and it's by the same distance, so go figure both database suppliers were given bogus info.
The nav Toyota/Lexus use, and that I'm familiar with, is also a Denso unit. This unit has the same basic architecture (with much prettier GUI). My 58 year old Asian mother has been using this with no problem since 2006. This is the same woman who just started using e-mail last year and can barely use the functions on her iPhone.
Most problems people have with the factory nav are due to the user, not the product.
The system uses the long & lat of points you input in order to take you where you are going. For example - you input an address, the system looks up that address in its data base to associate an exact long & lat with the address. It then shows you on a map where that long & lat is located. If the system's data base is missing the address, you can get around the problem by entering the long & lat you want to navigate to into the system yourself. The system always knows exactly where it is - it just doesn't know that you might call that location home. There is a screen that you can read that info on and another screen where you can input that raw data as the place you want to navigate to - for example - Home. The same goes for any location not in the database. The system is only as good as the data base it has to work with but you can still work around that to some extent.
It is a "Rube Goldberg" way to make it work but work it will. Just keep turning towards the red circle or diamond and you will get there.
If these addresses are in new neighborhoods, then they may not be on the NAV disc. This is normal. You can enter your home location by setting a point when you are at home.
Yes, dvd is correct, region is correct, etc, etc, etc. I have spoken with the sales person several times, he couldn't help any more. He directed me to the GM Nav System Tech Support people, and I spoke to at least 6 different people and they couldn't help!!! They even had me go to a local dealer and that tech said it was working correctly??? How can it be working correctly when it 1) can't find some friends' addresses or 2) my home address??? I bought a Garmin 255w for my wife and that system can not only find ALL those addresses but it also much easier to use!!! How frustrated can a person get before GM takes it back??? My sales person told me when I was looking at purchasing the '08 that it was exactly like the Cadillac Escalade. Had a demo of that system and that system found my home address and was much easier to use. The Caddy salesman said that they had a different system for the CTS as well as the STS??? Does that mean GM has a different Nav system for all of their models???
Did you read any of the previous 11 posts? You've already been told by numerous posters why the data is most likely not there. Did you check what version of the disk you have, and if there is a newer version?

Yes, there are at least three nav systems in use in GM cars currently
If you would like to PM me an address that your system can't find I will be happy to see if I can find it using my OEM nav. This way we can determine if the data is on the disc and if the database is capable of finding it. Please also tell me in your PM what version of the nav disc is in your car so that I can duplicate it with my car. I have versions 1,2,3,4 and 5 so I can check up through the 2009 version. I don't have the 2010.

Hmmm, you tell me when the One-way streets are marked the WRONG way that it is a USERS problem. Get real!

It isn't the nav system it is the TeleAtlas map database. You can let TeleAtlas know here:

There are only a couple of major Data sources for all the nav systems. Navteq and TeleAtlas. GM, like other OEMs purchase the data from these sources.
