There is no "one right answer". Some have used #2 and they work fine. Most use #3 or #4. I bought #4 stainless steel at Home Depot because that is what they had in the #3 or #4 size. I got stainless because a person has to have the best for their Vette, you know. Anyway, they were about $1.30 each. Also, some use the fine thread machine screw type that requires at least one nut and washer. I got the course thread, wood screw type. Just drill a pilot hole and screw it in. I took the time to hack saw off about 1/4 inch at the screw tip so they don't poke through. Good luck.
For those whom have never seen or used the BMW pucks I highly recommend them. BMW pucks are invisible unless you look under the car and are always there in case of emergency ready to go. For $25- $30 well worth it. I had them on my C5Z as well.

Mike, you get the pucks online or right from a BMW dealer? Mabe they stock em here in Hamilton.
The GM FSM directs technicians to use lift adapters (pucks) in the rear shipping slots when lifting the car. There is sufficient clearance in the front to get to the frame without damaging the rocker panel.
