When I had my C5, it had three storage compartments with the center one quite large, so I could carry a bunch of stuff with me without them being loose in the rear of the car. With the C6, it only has two storage compartments and with the battery in one compartment on the Z06/ZR1/Dry sump GS, that left one very small storage compartment to store junk.
I have a 1/2" drive torque wrench (19"long in case), a gorilla breakover bar(17'"long in case) and a small aluminum jack that is 13.5" long. Since they wouldn't fit in my Z06's rear compartment I set out to find something to store the stuff in so they wouldn't be loose in the rear of the car. I like the idea of having the items in the car just in case I do need to remove a tire out on the road.
I found a 18" long expandable travel duffel bag((#0001527272878) online at WalMart(not available in stores) for $10 with free shipping to my local store. I picked up a set of elastic tie downs(#46911), assorted set of 6) at Harbor Freight on sale for $2.99.
Plenty of room in the duffel bag for the three items above plus four lifting pucks, a 5' X 7' plastic tarp (#5611) from Harbor Freight, and a large towel and some hand soap. The two 18" long tie downs work perfect connected to the hooks that GM put in the rear for the cargo net. I set the bag cross ways at the rear of the compartment and threaded the tie downs through the loops at each end of the duffel bag and connected together. The two tie downs are stretched about 2" each, which securely holds the duffel bag in place. The bag, full, is 18" X 9" X 9". The bag also has a bunch of smaller compartments on the sides/ends to store small items.
Actually......the ZR1 doesn't have any storage compartments!!!
My 2005 coupe had the 2 cubby hole storage compartments, and the Z06 had the battery on the right so only had the one storage compartment on the left.
I was surprised when I got a 2009 ZR1 that the left compartment doesn't exist - no door or anything!!! I've heard that some of the MSRC suspension control stuff is in that area under the cargo compartment floor, but I don't know for sure.

Poor Bob, Gosh my heart goes out to you! Hardly seems worth it to trade those nice cubbyholes for a measly couple of horsepower etc. Maybe you'll rethink that purchase now...I'll bet you didn't even check for the presence of the proper cubbyholes before buying that ZR1...bet you are feeling pretty silly about now huh????????

Boy, did you ever get screwed by GM!!!!!!!!! I hope you got your money back.
Is a $10 bag from Wally strong enough to contain your tools/floor jack in a high-g crash?
Just want you to be safe. Good idea though.
The bag is very well made, as are the tie down straps. I feel comfortable with the setup. It's more secure then items placed in the back and secured with the cargo net that GM supplies.
I don't carry a floor jack in the bag, it's 2.75# aluminum scissors jack for a late 90's E-Class Mercedes that is only 2.75 inches tall when collapsed. It works perfect to raise a Corvette.
Will try and get you photo's. I'll have to email them to someone so that they can post, as I've not progressed to the point where I can figure out how to.

I assume you are not using RUNFLATS, with all those tools on board.

I'm running runflats. Since I have the tools, I carry them on board in case I do need them. They won't do me any good if they're at home in my tool box and I'm off somewhere else. Never used them when I had the C5 and hope to never have to need them with the C6. Kind like life insurance, you have it but hope you don't need it for a long, long time.
Hopefully, you have an electric inflator pump in that collection. If needed, you can air up a tire to about 44 psi and drive until you get the "low pressure" warning on the DIC, air it up again and repeat as necessary.
I got a car home from 20 miles away that didn't have runflats. Had to stop several times to re-air the bad tire but it worked out ok.
in a crash...would the bag come loose and take your head off or is is secured good enough?
A crash can easily put a 20G on the stuff inside the car. If the bag and contents weigh 20 lbs, that would be a total force of 400 lbs to be taken up by two hooks, 200 lbs each. I don't think the hooks or their mounts are that strong.
On the other hand, I T-boned a moron while driving my 2006. It was a pretty hard hit, fired the airbag and trashed all body work forward of the doors. I had a couple of shotguns and other shooting gear in the trunk, nothing hit me. I suspect that some of it bounced off the seatbacks but can't be sure.
I've tried to figure a way to really secure luggage in case of accident, and just can't find an easy way to do it in the C6.
If someone has a better idea than the OP, please let us know.

I'm showing how I'm using the expandable duffel bag and tie downs to carry some tire changing tools, but it can also be used to carry anything that you might need, such as car cleaning supplies, if you're on a trip or going to a show and shine. The expandable bag will store in it's attached compartment ( ~6" dia X 2" thick) and when not needed , easily stored, along with the two tie downs, in the cars rear storage compartment.
I was only showing my solution to a lack of storage area in the C6, that can also be used for other items. With the duffel bag, you can remove the stored items as a group from your car.
