Normal tires are great but I want to be able to go on date and get back with no issues and since I'm not trying to shave a 10th of a second off a track time run flats are just fine.
I have used Toyo Proxes T1R and they are an awesome sport tire and work very well in the rain.
BFG KDW FTW - one of the most inexpensive of the lot and IMO one of the best
I also run these tires for the last 15k and very happy with them and looks like another 10-15k still left in them and they were used when I put them on with my CCWs. I carry a portable air pump, plug kit and goop for the unexpected. Of not I have picked up one nail in a rear tire and had it fixed, I did not need to use my kit on this episode
For the best of both worlds (i.e. great tires AND run-flats) go with the new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP tires. Michelin only stiffens one sidewall for the run-flat feature, which means the tires are more responsive and quieter than the stock Goodyears.
I've run these Michelins on the track and swear by them for track use and DD use.
I have the Kumho Ecsta SPT's on my car...they cost $152 ea for the front and $205 each for the rear. They are non run flats and seem to work well. I replaced the original Goodyears with these at 17,000 miles. I figure at a fraction of the price they will last just as long. I have the tire puncture kit and a portable air compressor in case I need it. If not I can buy a lot of tows for the money I save by buying these tires. I do not race and cannot justify paying tons of money for tires when I generally drive it at highway speeds anyway. These Kumho's ride much better than the Goodyears. Personally, I believe any kind of runflats are way overpriced. I cannot believe GM didnt engineer a new Corvette where you could rotate all the tires to increase tire life and handling as well as effective balance retention. Oh well I understand if you want to play ya gotta pay! Anyway, I like the Kumho's for all around cost savings as well as a decent ride and they look really nice too. I do not like agressive tread tires on a Corvette and I really dont like the V-shaped tread pattern either.
I'm hoping GY makes NON-runflat Corvette sizes of the new Eagle F1 SC G:2 tires, BUT have'nt heard yet.... .The GY. Eagle F1 Asymmetric is a fine non -run-flat { better than Michelin PS2 IMO } , But the rears are not available in non-runflat size.
A flat runflat won't do me any good when you are stuck in nowhere land.....anyway I'm calling a tow truck. My insurance always pay the full amount of my tow.
