Remember you have a "balanced" car so drive it that way.
Remember that the Vette is balanced at 52% front and 48% rear and therefore the traction is critical as you are finding out. As a result, you need to be EASY ON the gas AND EASY OFF the gas: similarly on the brakes: EASY ON the brakes AND EASY OFF the brakes to keep from UNbalancing the car. You try to be as SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE and things will be working much better for you. Leave the traction control and active handling on while you are learning the handling of the car. If you follow the CF, many people get in trouble with these cars because they are inexperience with these cars and can get into real trouble quickly. I assume that you have probably notice a number of Vette accidents that have been posted on the CF, take heed! Professional race car test drivers respect the Z06 for its "scary" handling characteristics and recommend leaving ALL the nannies on. You will not learn this car overnite UNLESS you have had alot of racing experience in a RWD car AND it was a balanced car. Vettes can be a handful, especially in turns and sweeps and rough roads with either the gas or the brakes, funny things can happen. It would not be a bad idea to practice on a large parking lot or similar area to get a feel for the handling. Respect this car BECAUSE it will NOT respect YOU. Eventually, you will really begin to enjoy the car, but don't rush it! Sorry for the lecture, but we all want you to have a fun ride and enjoy it!
PS: Tire pressure, temperature, and road surfaces are ALL very important in handling of the car.
Not true...my oem tires are just fine on my '05. Maybe having the F55 suspension helps but the tires are fine. I'm getting the temperature is far more of an issue here.
I totally disagree that most go with road race tires.
I don't know if your car is a stick or an automatic, but from what you are describing is your car is fishtailing when you accelerate HARD from a standing start... NOT when you are doing 40 mph, and zipping around corners...
"IF" I am correct, I used to live in Ct. & now live only 20 miles out of Ct. I'm in NY.. and the roads are COLD.. my C6 is automatic, and will easily spin the tires if I try to start quick even on a sunny day (like today Sunday) I would just squeeze the gas, & if I went more than 1/2 way it would start to "Fishtail" on the start..
Remember the roads today were dry, but they have a coating of salt/sand etc from when it snowed..
I drag race, & use Drag Radials .. even during the summer on a track that is prepped to race on , I have seen many Corvette drivers start to "Fishtail" when they launch, and they try to be Mr. Macho, and wind up hitting the wall 60' from the starting line..
I have been racing for 40 yrs, & if my car starts to fishtail, I GET OFF THE GAS NOW!!
I'm betting you are having your problem when you try to accelerate fast from a standing start...
It cant be done in Ct. cold weather on the roads you are driving on now...
Today I put my racing tires on (the Season starts 1st week in March), & Even with the race tires on it would spin easley...
Wait until the weather warms up, and the roads are clear of the salt & sand.... you will see how much better it will take off...
You have traction control on right? Granted I just bought my 08 a week ago, but it hasn't gotten loose on me at all. It is a manual tranny and I have gotten on it a few times.
By the way, I am not bragging about my driving skills. I have never taken a class either.
Something must be wrong with your 08 then because mine breaks loose all the time even with traction on.

Maybe the roads in Ga are warm enough to make a difference. I really have floored the car and I have not gotten loose once yet (owned one week). Mine is a MN6.
I did have fun with the traction control off! I think OMG covers it.
But the traction issues are with traction control on 100%. It has to be the weather and the cold. The traction control seems to come on when going up hill around corners when driving slow for some reason. I havent really noticed it other than a particular up hill route home.
Definitely not a pro driver here either. I love manuals myself but bought this beast from my wife's uncle who had to sell the car. I used to autocross my sti but I can already tell I dont have the patience to even try an autocross in this one!
Make sure traction control button is engaged and SES system is functioning properly.
Yeah, unfortunately, the Vette is another animal from the Sti. Temperatures are a big thing and power is too. In the sti, you get power re-distributed for you. Technology is a great thing and I admire awd cars for that. If I had to pick one car to drive for the rest of my life as a daily driver in all conditions, it would have awd cause it would be so much more dummy proof in different driving conditions.
Now you're in a car that will get bent out of shape if you try and mash around in it like the sti. The Vette requires a lot more finesse. Its fun though, to learn to drive it cause once you get it down, you will really appreciate and enjoy the skill it takes. Oh yeah, its a lot of fun to steer with the gas pedal...

Too much throttle, slip the clutch. You want a chirp then floor it smoothly and quickly but without the tires breaking loose then you'll have max acceleration. If rear breaks loose then yes it will wiggle. Cold cuts way down on traction.
