Anyone seen or heard about this? I couldn't find anything in our local rag. Seems like the youngster in the BMW was going too fast and crashed into a new Vette at the Porter Chevrolet dealership in Newark, DE.
It isn't that the dealer was so above board but rather it is the easiest way for them to get the most money. The insurance company is going to pay the difference between what they get for it now and what they would have gotten for it before. If they try to repair it they are only reducing how much that difference is and then they have to justify adding their repair cost. Far simpler to just say "Here's the market value of the damaged car because here is what someone paid for it."
I am an agent. The way this palys out is the driver of the M5 is responsible for all damages. His car, the Vette, and the dealership.
What's is even worse for him is that because the Vette was most likely new he will be responsible for not only the damages but also the loss in value because the dealership can not sell it as new.

Yes, it's smart. If the dealer fixes the car it will have to be listed as used. But if they sell the car as is, they can still list it as new. Plus the $$ for the insurance company they could end up still making a reasonable profit off it.
My firend buys cars like this fixes them and sells them. I'm going to let him know bout this one. Sseeing that it looks all cosmetic it will be a cheap fix.
What a shame, waste of good car. I'll bet the BMW guy turned left off the Kirkwood Hwy. and hit the go pedal beyond his abilty sending the car into the front of the dealership.
Seeing that showroom brings back good memories of spending time there looking at Vettes and dreaming while attending the Univ. of Delaware (while driving a beat up Mustang). I'll bet that BMW guy was one of those smart a.. university kids with a rich papa.
Not trying to sound like an a** but main reason i got rid of M3 and got vette is bec so many kids are driving M's and other BMW models.I would always get dirty looks from them if i dont want to race or drive fast. My M was heavily modified, but i did it for me and looks , not to drive fast and race with some 18y old kids. Every one of them wants to race, they will zoom thru the city streets and just giving bad name and reputation for BMW's . Cops are all over these cars.

I hope he has high coverage!
To finish that morons day he'll no doubt receive another present from his local PD...

We share a similar past. I loved my M3 (1999) but every moron in a Mitsubishi Eclipse or riced out Honda always wanted to do the Fast n Furious thing. They take one look at the Vette and don't seem to even consider playing. I have had a couple of guys in the WRX/Evo machines get frisky, but I'm just not a street racer so I usually quit once speeds get too far above the posted line.
