Does anyone make, or has anyone done a quality repair to the C-6 Sunvisors lighted mirror? Mine creak like they are going to crack into bits everytime someone opens them.
I'm tempted to remove the lights, and just take the flap off so that at least someone can use the mirror. It's not a question of if it will break, just of when. And not to complain, but if almost every car maker out there can make a quality lighted sunvisor, why can't Chevy? The few corners they cut on an otherwise exemplary automobile astounds me.
If I just take out the bulbs and remove the covers will this cause an error message on my Driver Info Center?
Mine broke and I used a dremel to cut out the plastic pin and glued in a steel pin it worked ok then the drivers side broke and I built a jig to put it in a mill and it works a lot better, the pins have to be located just right to work and doing it in a fixture makes it easy , so far I have done this on three other cars and they all came out the same.
Someone posted about putting oil on the mirror flaps and said it disolved the plastic hinges. Sorry, I don't remember which oil.
I used the GM silicone grease on my hinges and it worked somewhat. On mine, the "friction" when opening the flap is actually the center of the flap rubbing against the frame, looks like it was designed that way. A bit of the grease in that center area might do a lot to quiet things down. Haven't tried that yet.
