Anybody install Apsis Shifter Boot on the C6 or Z06? I have an 09 with the chrome ring under the ****. I cannot get the chrome ring to stay on the boot with the O ring and I cannot seem to get the plastic ring back in the console.
Needless to say it was a real #$%^ trying to get the original out but the new one is even harder going back in. When I get the front and back just slightly in the opening the sides collapse as if the ring is too big. What a pain in the butt.
I would love to hear how you did yours or any tips on how to do it.
This will happen with any aftermarket boot as the leather is thicker than the OEM. What temperature is it where you are - if it's cold or evn cool, the leather will not be as pliable. Try heating it with the high setting on a blow drier and flattening the leather against the ring flattening it down. Keep it hot while putting the ring into its place and continue to add heat while tryinh to slip the ring into the console.
Worst case you have to take the console out and put the shifter boot in from underneath...(that's what I'm doing while I change out my shifter for an MGW)
I just installed a DSV boot on my car. I changed the center console out on my '07 to an '08 and installed the shift boot and e-brake boot while it was out. Very easy to do but the console removal was frustrating because of the wiring harness plugs that had to be disconnected. Use the search function here to get instructions on how to do it.
I can't believe there are not more people that have replaced that cheap fake leather boot with some quality leather and nice stitching.
Did anybody install the bottom boot ring without pulling out the console? How did you attach the chrome ring under the **** to the boot? The real leather is so thick and stiff I cannot see how an O ring would hold it up.
Apsis volunteered to attach the chrome piece to the boot so I am anxious to see how they do it. I am also hoping I am able to get it back together with the callaway short throw shifter. I know when I undid the ring I was barely able to get to the screw since the ring can only go down so far before it hits the bolts that hold the callaway shifter shaft to the shifter and with new leather it may be even tighter.
