Default outside temp gauge

Where in the 2008 owners manual does it tell how to reset the outside thermometer reading? I have seen it before, but can't find it now. Does anyone know why it has to be reset every few weeks? Thanks

I did not know there was such a thing as resetting the temp gauge. Why do you need to do that?

Not in the Onwer's Manual, it's in the Service Manual:

Default outside temp reading

Because it is 55 degrees outside and it reads 75 degrees. I have reset it before , but I forgot how.. It involves the 2 defrost buttons and the fan switch I think, but maybe not, since I can't do it now.

It doesn't have to be reset every few weeks. Or at all for that matter. That procedure only allows instant reading instead of the automatically stored recorded data which will be updated as you drive anyway. Pushing the buttons described doesn't reset, merely allows faster reading for current temperature.

Default Temperature delay is normal.

It usually takes the temperature sensor approximately ten (10) minutes to up date from when you last used the car. For example: It is hot outside and the A/C was working fine and you stop the car and come back an extended time later and restart the car and now the computers would be messed up with ALL the new temperature readings inside and outside of the car and now it takes the "consertative" approach and uses the last settings for a short time. There is something in the manual on this temperature delay when restarting the car.

I appreciate all of the advice. Sometime mine will read 106 degrees when it is only in the 80's outside. I understand about the updating automatically depending on the circumstances, but mine does not seem to reset to the correct temp no matter how long I wait. It only changes 1 degree when I reset it using the above mentioned method. I must have a glitch somewhere.

The sensor sits right next to the radiator, so after being driven and then stopped, the sensor would pick up that extreme heat if it did not have the delay built into its software. The sensor needs airflow across it to become accurate...if all your trips in the car are short, it may never get past the software timeframe.
