Default Throttle Response

I have a 2008 C6; I notice that when I brake into corners, and then step on the accelerator, there is a noticable lag in the response and it is almost as if the fuel system cuts out. I also notice that at speeds of above 60, that if I step on it, it downshifts more than a couple of gears below where it should and the RPM's kick into the 5000 range and it takes a couple of seconds for the car to realize that it is in the wrong gear and upshift; meanwhile the pinto has just passed me giggling. Has anyone else noticed this occurence?

One of the reasons I got rid of my a6 car was the way it down shifted way too far and the power came on way too late.

If your car was like mine an 08 a6 with the standard rear end ratio this could be it, that car is gone and I went back to the standard trans and the 342 gear, now I have control over what gear I'm in and when I want to drop a gear I can drop one or more if I wish.

That is if the winter ever gets over.........

Sounds exactly like what I am experiencing. I also notice a really bad smell when this happens, like a some fluid is burning but it isn't oil.

Yep same here. Dealer says "its normal". How about coasting down to 40 and then punching it? DELAY, Buck, slam into gear. Great programming job ! GM must be outsourcing their programming overseas.

Whew. I just got mine and I thought it was just me. Thought I would be okay with an automatic after driving standard trans for so many years, but there is nothing like the control you have with a standard. Still love my new GS, and still faster than most anyone else on the road on any given day.

Do you think that this might be something that a "chip" could fix? If it is nothing more than having a new chip installed, I would be one happy camper.

Thanks

I have my 05 C6 Z51 programmed with the Predator and the changes made to the transmission shift points, etc have reduced the lag greatly.

Does the chipset affect your ability to pass the "smog test" in your locality?

I love this thread! sometimes I forget the drawbacks of an automatic, and i even entertain the thought of getting one in my next car, but posts like these snap me back into clear thinking! I love manual shifting...

Can't say as we have no smog tests. Florida is not quite as left as other states. Here in Central Florida, cracker country, even less so.

Yup, same here with my 08... Only thing I dislike about the car. But a Chuck Cow tune can fix it. Only have to wait till my warranty is up though...

My 08 A6 does this in drive mode, does anyone have this problem using the paddles or S mode?

Here is what's going on.....08 and newer standard shift cars have something called "CLUTCH TORQUE MANAGMENT"

For the first time in the history of Corvette the computer is programmed to watch very carefully a sensor on the clutch pedal.

The computer now knows which direction the clutch is traveling, how fast and how far it's depressed or released.

If the clutch is not down as far, fast, or in the right direction as they require for what is considered a complete release of the clutch before shifting....The computers action is to close the throttle and lower spark timing to take torque away from the engine to protect the trans.

The 08 and newer standard shift cars NO LONGER have the reliable T56. Newer cars have been outfitted with the new 6060 trans which so far has been proven to have synchro issues.

In order to protect the trans, this clutch torque management has been implemented.

When doing a tune on these vehicles, the torque management is typically "globally disabled" so that the car lets you shift how you like.

BEWARE!!! Do not attempt to impress your buddies or chirp gears often with a 6060 trans or you will be calling me for TRANNY JOB!.

On another note, for 2 years now, we have been replacing the new 6060 transmissions with the older more durable T56s.

For anyone needing something like that, please give us a call.

Another thing to know is that while the syncros in the 6060 are not so good....

CORVETTES of WESTCHESTER can overhaul your 6060 with much better synchronizers than the unit came with new.

This is your best option for making that trans work better.

Letting most GM dealerships repair this type of problem under warranty is only going to put you right back in the same shape you were in just before the trans started grinding.

Call us if you need a repair like this.

One final note... If you don't shift like a 16 year old kid who stole dad's car for the first time...It will likely last a good long time...

If you do shift it like you stole it, You'll probably be calling me soon.

That's why they put the clutch torque management in the 08 an newer cars.

Stay TUNED!

Chuck, I think we are talking about the A6 not the 6 speed manual.

Do a search for tuners in So Cal I had mine done at Performance Associates in San Dimas Ca and I have no problems anymore. Remember there is the warranty issue, a personal decision.

Sounds like maybe the "lower shifting effort" on the 6060 may not be such a great thing.

I could be wrong, but I understood the Predator for an 08 does not have any adjustments for the A6....no TM disable, shiftpoints, nothing.

Am I wrong? I hope so, that would be good news.
