Default Tpms question

I just installed 4 new hre rims and wheels with brand new tpms sensors. Bought as a package deal. After the install i went to program the new wheels and sensors. I have a brand new wheelrite (made by bartec ) tool.i followed the instructions and couldn't even train the first wheel.i then checked the pressures on the dic and it was recording (reading tire pressures. So i then took the vette for a test run to make sure the wheel install was ok (changed to 19&20 rims. Went 6 mi. Came back home and the tpms was recording the tire pressures. Am i missing something here.i thought that when you install new sensors you have to retrain them to the car. Any thoughts

The sensor system is still reading the old wheels. It will take a longer drive for the system to tell you that it sees no sensors. And if the old wheels are in the garage next to the car, then the system will read those every time you come back home. You need to get the new ones programmed. What is it that did not work with the new ones?

Easy to prove...let a bunch of air out of one of the new wheels....the system will not tell you about it.

And if the old wheels are still in the garage, you can let air out of one of those and the system will tell you.

Did you put the (RCDLRM) Remote Control Door Lock Reciever Module into the TPMS programming mode first, before trying to probram the wheel pressure sensors?

The ignition has to be on the accessory mode, not the ON mode. The horn will sound when you first enter the TPMS programing mode.

On our '08, I recently programmed a wheel change using a Bartec by putting the vette in accessory mode and holding both the lock and unlock buttons on the fob until the horn honks. Then I programmed the sensors starting with left front, right front, right rear and finished with left rear. The horn honked once each time a wheel sensor programmed and honked twice after the last wheel sensor. Good luck.

THAT is EXACTLY how it's done.

Where did you get your new sensors?

If you got them from a forum dealer you should definitely have received the proper ones - forum dealers know more about them than most local dealers.

I assume you got the gray peanut shaped sensors with GM Part# 25758220 - is that right???

I see that you got HRE wheels. How are the sensors mounted - in the OE manner, or deep inside the wheels with bands/straps?

One thing I found myself doing WRONG the first time I reset new sesnors was I was aiming the tool right at the valve stem and was not getting the horn beep everytime. I then "woke up" and started pointing the tool through the TIRE towards the sensor below the stem. THEN all was well......

The 2010 C6 uses a different sensor from the 2005-2009 model year C6.

I'm not sure that Wheels Boutique would necessarily know that. I've even seen a couple posts where guys said that their local dealers told them the 2005-2009 sensor (Part# 25758220) had been superceded by the 2010 sensor - but that's not true at all. So, if dealers don't know what they're talking about, I'd check with Wheels Boutique to make sure they gave you the proper part# sensors.

The 2005-2009 sensor won't work in the 2010, and the 2010 sensor won't work in the 2005-2009.

Also, as has been mentioned, you MUST get the antenna of the tool as close as possible to the sensor (within a few inches), you MUST put the antenna of the tool on the rubber sidewall of the tire right next to where the valve stem sticks out of the wheel, and MUST have fresh/strong batteries in your tool.

You also MUST get a honk of the horn when you put the car into the learn mode, and you MUST get a honk at each wheel (2 honks at the LR).

I don't know which Bartec tool you have - I think most of them are called "Wheelrite". The Trackside is their lowest/entry level tool, and the Tech 300 is a more fully featured tool (can update the software, can print out info about sensors that have been triggered, etc.). The Tech 300 Plus has a screen. But - they all work in virtually exactly the same manner when doing a relearn procedure to trigger your sensors and log their ID#s into your TPMS computer.

Below is a video using a tool virtually identical to a Bartec Trackside. It shows how to put the car into the learn mode, and it shows where I put the antenna of the tool on the tire sidewall.
