I bought a new car and the sales person talked to me about a "special" coating they can do that protects the clear coat and makes it look like you have just polished it, lasts for 10yrs. low price of $500.00

Anyone know what this miracle coating is?

Sounds like the old undercoating option. It must have been your lucky day. I'd spend the money over the years on good wax.

You can get a special clear film material that will protect the front from rocks, etc. for about $800. The rest of the car can be protected by Maguairs wax ($15) or Zaino (125?), the best by CF owners. I think haste makes waste on this, sleep on it and also listen to CF members, you'll learn alot. I don't buy the 10 years and road film (dirt, etc.), this guy is looking for a commission!

Very likely, the gloss is just some poly based sealent....that will not last 10 years. Just a gimmic to dig into your wallet. Save the money for something useful.

Likely the Simonize stuff - Simonize have focused on all these wonder products to sold at the dealerships or on "As Seen of TV" for a few years now.

It's total cr@p in virtually all cases. At one point in the 90's almost all of it was made in the same factory in Texas (no offense Texans) and then sold to dealers. What you are paying for is the repair/replacement insurance that goes with the product. There reason they make so much money is that nobody ever comes back to file a claim.
Spend your money on Zaino and read Wolfdog's bible on waxing.

The same goes for interior protection and undercoating. It's all money in the dealer's pocket. $500 buys plenty of Zaino.
