Default Backordered items.

Seem to be having alot of trouble with specific companies with backordered items. Stuff is ordered (and paid for) that shows there is stock, then a week or so later I get emails about products being backordered. There is never a timeline when items will be availiable? Needed to cancel one order because after 30 days there still was no item or estimated date of avaliability. Anyone else having these problems? Thanks.

This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet, a long time supporting dealer here on the Forum.

There has been a fair amount of back ordered parts from GM as quite a few of the supplier companies have gone out of business the last year or so. These are companies that make parts not just for GM but also Ford, Chrysler etc. What is happening when GM runs out of a particular part they are having to find a new supplier for that part and sometimes that take months or longer. After finding a supplier then everything must go thru product quality testing before actual production begins. I have seen parts on back order for 6 months to a year because of this; and at times this is why some parts are going discontinued as no supplier can be found. This is also why at times GM or whoever you are ordering from can't give you an eta on a part as they probably have no idea on how long it will be.

As to a supplier actually charging for a part before it is actually shipped to you, in our opinion is wrong. We never charge for any part before it is actually shipped out to you either from us or direct from GM.

If there is something we can help you with as all GM parts are wholesale or less thru us give us a call at 800-234-5284 or email us at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com

Hi, I have just had that experience with West Coast Corvettes, parts were in stock when I ordered but an email later said they were backordered. Called them when they were supposed to be in and it was going to be another 2 wks, they refunded to Paypal. They get enough for vette parts you think they could stock some
