Default What is Normal?

This is my first Vette. I bought in December and have done a few mods to it over the winter. A Chuck CoW tune and a Variram CAI.
I made a 100 mile round trip and find the car runs at 230+ degrees on a 65 degree day is this normal? I did install the 160 degree thermostat with the tune, but don't see how that could make it run hot. The CAI does block a fair portion of the radiator off. The car only has 1800 miles on it. Oh, I was not driving it hard 26.5 mpg

Not on a 65* day it isnt. At most, when I was stock, I would see 220 on an 85*+ day in S FL standing in traffic.

Could be a bad stat or lack of coolant if this just started since the stat swap. Or the fan not operating at the correct temps after the tune(or at all). Less likely would be a water pump failure.

If the temps get toward normal (180-200) when cruising at 35+mph, then it's more likely a fan problem. You can run the heater full blast till you figure out the issue.

I have a Vararam and more and have never seen 230 even in heavy traffic when it's 115 here in Phoenix. My fan ramps up to 90% by 201 degrees.

Have your tune checked. Fans likely turned off and need to be reset to come on at lower temps. Temps you quoted are not normal.

The fan is running almost all the time. It ran for 5 minutes after the car was shut off. I called the tuner, He said, it is about a 90 percent chance that I installed the gasket wrong in the t-stat housing. The little tit was not lined up with the notch. This causes air to be sucked in and a small amount of coolant to leak out. So I guess the system is air bound. He told me to remove the hose from the t-stat housing. Easier said than done. I can get the clamp spread and pulled back, but the hose is stuck tight the the aluminum housing.

haven't tried this one, but others that are "glued" stuck on usually come apart with a lot of very careful prying. but if not, just have a new hose nearby.

a little air and a fluid leak doesn't explain the fans running five minutes after shutoff...is there something I don't know? are/can our cars be programmed so that the fans run AFTER shutdown? battery drain, considering the size of the battery and issues some have?

My normal operating temp is 196 with the stock thermostat. 70 - 80 degree ambient temp.

I don't know for sure, but the thing was HOT and I suspect the fan is thermostatically controlled. I have seen other brands of cars electric fans run after the ignition is shut off.

I gave up trying to unstick the hose from the thermostst housing. Arthritis causes my wrists not to work very well. I was extra careful in my attempt to get the thermostat in streight. Now according to instructions I am pouring the Dexcool back in VERY slowly, a quart every 15-20 minutes. There is still a gallon to go but the resavour is full. I'll start the car and pour a little in at a time. Hopefully it won't become air locked again.

I suggest, if not too late, to add Purple Ice. One or two bottles to at least a 50/50mix (seeing as your in a freezing state) .Thats 50% distilled or tap water, 50% Dex Cool, minus the 1-2 bottles of Purple Ice. Purple Ice is also compatible with DexCool.

Call Royal Purple, very helpful customer service.

yes, there are plenty of cars that have fans running after the car/ignition is turned off. but to my knowledge, not the C6.

that's why I was asking the question. maybe this is something new that tunes put into computer?? that's a question: is it put in by a tune?

You pose a good question. I personally do not have the knowlage to answer it. I have been around cars for a long time. These C6's are not your garden variety automobile.

My car runs around 220-224 on a HOT day and the coolant never budges from 203. I think I have a fan issue too.
