Just found my key fob in the washing machine!
Like the title says, I'm an idiot. I haven't even tried to see if it still works, I wanna let it dry out first. Any suggestions? Is it ruined for sure?

I know this works for cell phones dropped in the toilet, so give this a try...
Try to open it up and take the battery out.
Dry what you can with a towel. Close the fob back up.
Fill a ziplock bag with rice and put your fob in it overnight. Make sure rice is surrounding the entire fob.
Hope this helps...

Mine's been through washer twice with no ill effects and I did nothing to dry it out afterwards.
Just got back from a rally and was sitting here reading forum. If you hadn't had this message, fob would have been left in cargo shorts' lower pocket and gone through washer again tonight.

Lol, glad I could help! Well im glad to hear it's probably gonna be ok, I'm gonna let it dry all night and see what happens,
BTW- that rice idea is great, I can't believe I've never heard of that.

Take it apart, take the battery out and put ALL the parts into a small baggie with rice in it. I will take out all the moisture and it will be as good as new.......well at least as clean

Some good suggestions here. Another is take the battery out and blow out any remaining water with a hair blow drier. Or, you could finish the wash cycle and put you FOB in the dryer with your clothes (not).

It's fine... Mine's made the trip through the washing machine three times in the last 42 months.... They're sealed really well.

If not, do what the guys said about about ziplock and dessicant.

Reviving an old thread, sue me.
But I'll be damned if my 2011 fob didn't just make a trip through the washer and dryer without a single problem. Lock/unlock/rear hatch all fired while the damn thing was still hot to the touch from the dryer.
Whatever issues I have with my 2011 Z06 (and they are few), the fob crew is absolutely top notch.
