2005 Center Console Lock Issue
I just went to grab my registration from my locked center console, turned the key and found that the console lid was stuck. I assumed I had turned the key the wrong way (locking instead of unlocking) and the lid was still stuck. I noticed that the "hook" part of the locking mechanism (part which locks the lid down) was stuck in the locked position, no matter where the key was turned. Once I got the lid lifted, I noticed very little play in the mechanism. Could it be that the lock rod became unattached? Is there any hardware which attaches the lock rod to the lock cylinder or lock "hook"? (Parts listing link below) Should I attempt to make this repair or just take it to the dealer? I have an extended warranty on my 05 but the damn deductible would be $100. Thanks in advance.

Hold on a minute. The center console is supposed to have a lock? I have an '05 and there is no lock for the center console......Does that only come with certain trim (which would be quite ridiculous). I've had the car for 5-years, so this is a bit shocking!

To the OP ... no sympathy from those of us with no lock
In all seriousness, since I do not have a lock, I have never looked at one. Good luck!

The lock was deleted from 2006 onward, so I guess it is possible some late 2005s did not include it either ... Talon will probably chime in with the definitive answer.

My previous 2006 built in early May of 2006 had the console lock, my 2008 built on 10.02.2007 did not. Now we know one of the reasons why it was eliminated!

With that said, correct me if I am wrong, but did not the 2005/6 have a separate emergency key with the fob, I know my 2008 has the key enclosed in the fob. This would have made it more difficult to pull it out of the fob and lock/unlock the console, maybe this is why the console lock was finally eliminated.
Maybe Talon/Paul can provide the real answer.

When I had my 2006 with the console lock, I never used the lock feature, and I suspect very few owners did. My Vette was always locked, and if somehow they broke in to it, a "locked" console would not have have stopped them from breaking it open and causing even more damage.

My 2005 with the now broken lock was built in the Spring of 2005 (I can't think of the exact build date right now). I use(d) the center console lock when parking the Vert with the top down. I keep registration/insurance cards, EzPass, and such in there.

For my 2008 the "key" is enclosed in the fob.
