Default Windshield Wiper

I just changed my windshield wipers and noticed that my driver side wiper had a hard plastic shield that matched the cowl cover. It was riveted to the wiper itself, but only on the driver side. Is this something that comes this way from the factory (2007 Model)?

I changed mine out too. I noticed the same thing and just figured it was for looks and tossed them.

It's an airfoil. Helps keep the wiperblade firmly planted against the windshield while driving during rainstorms.

That shield as you call it is to hold the wiper down at higher speed, so they don't lift and cause your wiper to lift off the glass

I had them on my 2005 and kept them. Now I put on Bosch Icons which automatically hug the windshield with not as much metal as factory ones.

Put Rain X on windshield and I don't have to use wipers as much.

Yup...its a small wing to hold the wiper against the glass at high speeds...needed because the windshield is not as vertical as a normal one, so there is a tendency for wind to get in underneath the wiper and pull it away from the glass. I would just replace the rubber insert rather than the whole arm...no need anyway.

I have trouble with my drivers side wiper making good contact no matter which brand I try. I have bosch icons on right now, but right in the middle of the wiper path, it seems to miss about a 3" wide strip. Any suggestions? Any way to make the arm 'push' harder against the glass?

I'm using the exact same wipers but no problems.

Good call on just updating the insert. It is interesting that it was only on the driver side. I guess I will have to stay below 100MPH now.

I can't believe you actually USE your windshield wipers. You should be ashamed of yourself!

Great idea. I've used the Bosch on my other vehicles but I don't believe I'd like the looks of those blades on a Vette.

The dealer told me the wing on the driver side only was because of clearance issues with the hood on the passenger side..... Designed as a foil to press tighter during hig speed useage as stated.

Check out PIAA wipers - they sell them with the airfoil.

Yep! I just went in the garage and looked. No wipers on my car. I guess chevrolet also thought it would not be a good idea to drive in the rain.
I must warn you, if you do somehow try to drive it in the rain it WILL MELT.

So I'm not the only one to drive in the rain???

I wanted to go with some of those Sextuple blade Orange frame jobbers that the ricers use.

I actually just change the rubber insert rather than the whole arm.
