Default Jewel Red?

My dealer has a GS convertible in a color much like the 2003 Anniversary Red, which he calls "Jewel Red"...... Is this a new Corvette color? I can't find it on any of the Corvette or GM sites. Thanks

Grand Sport only comes in Torch Red or Crystal Red, both of which are bright red.

I think the Monterey red (see my avatar) in 06 had a plant name of Jewel Red.

I suspect the dealer is talking about Crystal Red Metallic. In is my favorite color. I'd have it instead of Monterey Red if it had been offered in 07. CRM really pops in the sun, but looks completely different in the shade. Look at the difference between Jims in the shade and mine in the sun. Monterey also pops in the sun, but I still prefer CRM.

As Jim mentioned, Red Jewel is actually Monterray Red on the Corvette, but the official name given to that color by the paint manufacturer is Red Jewel.

The dealer is confused if he's listing a new GS as coming in that color though, it would be Crystal Red.

Your correct, Monterey Red was originally called Jewel Red by the factory before its formal release.

I don't think the dealers really pay attention to what the proper names are of the Corvette colors. When I went to look at my 05 DSOM prior to purchasing it, the dealer had it advertised as SAPHRON!

Every other Chevy's maroon color is Red Jewel. Corvettes Crystal Red is a bit different.

Crystal Red is a lighter version of Monterey Red IMO. I have seen both side-by-side at my Club functions. It's not even a different tone, just lighter.

This is the same situation as with Machine Silver. Its official GM name is "Light Tarnish Silver Metallic" when its on other GM cars, but on the C6, its Machine Silver.

Probably because "Machine Silver" doesn't sound very nice to a little old lady buying a Buick. "Machine".....oh no, I'm buying a car not a "Machine"...

If he doesn't know for sure, he should look at the MSRP sticker and call it by it's proper name.

I know, I'm just saying that the salesman probably sees RED JEWEL all day on all his other cars and thinks it's the same color on the Corvette, which it is not obviously.

The Mad Man is exactly right. Your dealer needs to read the marketing packet he received for the Corvette. It seems that most dealers have very little product knowledge on the Corvette unless they are a volume Corvette dealer like the Forum dealers here.

Its probably just me, but I'd prefer not to buy a vette from this dealer. What else doesn't he know?

I recently heard a salesman call a new red Corvette Precision Red. I don't think GM has used that color on a Vette since '05
